Be careful not to compromise what you want most for what you want now. -- Zig Ziglar
Are you compromising your long-term goals for short-term victory?
I've been hearing the word compromise a lot lately and it got me thinking. Am I cheating myself by concentrating on my short-term goals instead of focusing on my long-term goals? My answer left me feeling icky.
I've been a procrastinator for as long as I can remember. My tendency to start something and then get distracted by something else without finishing the first thing causes me great distress. In order to combat this part of me, I devise a plan of achieving several short-term goals so as to not get distracted. But I sit here wondering if I'm cheating myself out of making my great big dreams come true.
We live in an immediate gratification society. Want food at 3 am? There's an app for that. Want to earn some extra money right away? There's an app for that. Want to hire an assistant, nanny, gardener, dog walker, etc.? There are many apps for that. Need an answer to a question or a recipe or to turn on your lights before you get home? Alexa can help you right away.
We've got to take a step back and realize the big goals in life take time. It can't happen right away, no matter what other people say. Instead of giving up on your dreams because it's taking too long, plan out the steps it will take to make your big dreams come true.
Never compromise your future happiness for a shot of immediate gratification right now.
