From Award Winning Author Wendy Altshuler comes Book III in the Evergreen Series:
When Christopher became lost in a wood one day, he would never have dreamed that he would meet a walking, talking awakened tree. Where did the tree come from? What was he doing wandering in the wood?
Christopher would come to learn the answers to these, and many more questions, when he ventures with the tree through a magical, secret portal. In fact, there are many interdimensional lands connected by the secret doors, and in Book II, Christopher and his friend Tom find out that some of the lands are strange—and dangerous. Now, in Book III, Christopher and Tom set out with two trees to see if they can help Georgeonus, the true heir of a Land of Silence. They travel to a land almost entirely covered in water to uncover the hidden secrets of a mysterious and evil Voice. But once there, Tom’s life is at risk, and things don’t go at all as planned. Can Georgeonus help them, before it’s too late?
"...a fantasy novel meant for young adults but appealing to readers and fantasy fans of all ages, following the adventures of a young boy, his close friend, and the bond he shares with a tree come to life... An emotionally moving, uplifting, and wholesome fable." -Midwest Book Review
My Review:
If a young reader is looking for adventure, then the tales of Evergreen is the only place a person needs to go. The continued adventures of Christopher take him back through the air doors and take him on a mission to free Georgeonus - after all, he owed him his life. This time, takes him and Thomas to a distant world where the adventure takes a very dark turn.
You may want to ensure the young reader of this book can take intense suspense as the trials of poor Thomas are really lengthy and takes the reader deep into the story.
With a climatic finish that leaves the reader wondering what will come next, this is a superb continuation of the series and again, a fine stand-alone book. Cannot recommend this to fans of Harry Potter or Lords of the Rings enough.
The story here got a bit complicated and I personally found it a little hard to follow at times.
Overall this author knows how to write young adult adventure and this book series deserves serious consideration to be made into films or a tv series.
