Welcome to this week’s edition of Friday Book Round-Up. I’m a huge paranormal romance fan and over the years, I’ve read thousands of them. Some are good, some bad and some meh. To be really great, the story, characters, action and romance have to be top-notch. Even though we’re dealing in realms of fantasy, it also has to be believable or else I can’t get engrossed in the story. So here are my top five paranormal romances of all time:
Crimson Debt (Born to Darkness #1) by Evangeline Anderson
Addison Godwin is a Non-Glam—one of the one in ten thousand humans who is immune to vampire glamour and mind tricks. Her gift enables her to work as an Auditor, enforcing the law that vampires and humans keep their distance from each other except in a purely non-physical way. The law is necessary because when a vampire tries to have sex with a human their blood-lust combines with their sexual appetite and the result looks like road kill.
Alec Corbin is a Four Star Master Vampire with piercing blue eyes and intentions to get Addison into his bed. He promises he can be gentle but Addison has seen way too many vamp/human crime scenes to go for that. She has no interest in the six foot four hunk of sexy vampire man candy, even if he is supernaturally hot.
But just because she Audits (and sometimes executes) vampires for a living, doesn’t mean she hates them all. Her best friend, Taylor, was turned against her will. Now, living as a slave to one of the crueler Master vamps in town, she leads a miserable existence and Addison is helpless to save her within the confines of the law.
Things come to a head when the Vampire Inquisitor comes to town and Taylor is given to him as a sex slave. When Addison sees her best friend tortured, beaten, and burned with silver she knows she has to do something—even if it means teaming up with Corbin and paying the Crimson Debt.
This is a plus length novel--95,000 words of Paranormal Erotic Romance. Vampires, Werewolves, and Witches are characters of note. Also included are chapter 1 of Shadowed, Book 8 in the Brides of the Kindred and chapter 1 of Scarlet Heat, Book 2 in the Born to Darkness series.
Kitty Cat (Age of Night Book 1) by May Sage [free on Amazon]
Aisling has every reason in the world to like her life as it is: away from the shifter community. Tucked in her little corner of the world, she sees no reason to gets involved in the drama of the ever warring packs, until trouble knocks at her door.
Trouble wrapped in a delicious package her cat wants to claw.
Raygan didn't know what he expected when he moved his pride to the loner's territory; maybe having to deal with a criminal, or someone in hiding. Instead, he found a fiercely protective, insanely attractive lunatic with secrets he wants to unravel.
A lunatic who might very well be his fated mate.
Vampire CEO by Erin R. Bedford (Three parts)
Tossed out by her coven, Abigail has to brave the human world and get a real job. With no skills outside of potions and spells, she magics her way out of unemployment and into the executive suite of Midnight Pharmaceutical.
But something strange is going on at Midnight. While her boss is the very definition of dark and mysterious, he makes her witchy sense tingle with his odd hours and the string of women leaving his office every day...
She'll find out what's happening at Midnight; if her boss doesn't take a bite out of her first.
The cat's out of the bag now...
With a vampire boss and an overwhelming attraction to him, Abigail's new job has become more than she can handle. The parts of herself that she thought were gone have resurfaced and now not even she knows what will happen next.
Sebastian is becoming more to her than just a boss and she has to decide will she stay with him or go? The smarter option would be to leave but when has she ever been smart?
Even witches can bite...
With her mother sick Abigail finds herself back where she started, at the head of the New Orleans Coven. The new position and the pressure put on her by her fellow sisters is making Abigail wish for her human life and a certain vampire.
Sebastian has been quiet since she quit. No word, no note. It makes her wonder if he ever cared about her at all or if it was just her blood to begin with.
Things get heated when her coven pushes her to do more magic than she is comfortable with until she gets a distressing call from Midnight that forces her to confront Sebastian. Will she figure out her place in New Orleans or will it all end in pain?
A standalone, with a HEA, and no cheating!
Bitten (Otherworld #1) by Kelley Armstrong
Elena Michaels is the world’s only female werewolf. And she’s tired of it. Tired of a life spent hiding and protecting, a life where her most important job is hunting down rogue werewolves. Tired of a world that not only accepts the worst in her–her temper, her violence–but requires it. Worst of all, she realizes she’s growing content with that life, with being that person.
So she left the Pack and returned to Toronto where she’s trying to live as a human. When the Pack leader calls asking for her help fighting a sudden uprising, she only agrees because she owes him. Once this is over, she’ll be squared with the Pack and free to live life as a human. Which is what she wants. Really.
A Hand Of Magic by Diane Moat
Even in a world of magic… you must trust in love… to heal the healer.
As Madison is running from venomous weresnakes who forced her to be their healer, she heals a werewolf pup attacked by a troll. A deed that turns her world upside down when she’s unexpectedly drawn to the pup’s werewolf pack. Even more so she’s drawn to their leader, the alluring Alpha—Alex. Though Madison gave up on love long ago, the more she’s with the werewolf pack, the harder it is for her to push Alex away.
Alex Spiros has close-cropped light brown hair, hazel eyes, and a wolfish grin, but the caution and danger in his movements mark him as a protector… and the killer for his pack. Madison brings out the male part of his wolf, but he’s also worried about her and wants her to feel safe after the horror of the weresnakes. Alex throws himself into a war to protect her and his pack.
Is time running out for the pack or can Alex bring the war with the weresnakes to a victorious end? Moreover, is Madison ready to not only bond with the pack, but also surrender to an even rarer bond with Alex…or will she keep running?
