N. N. Light: I’m so excited to introduce you to an incredible author and one whom I’ve had the pleasure to know for quite some time. She primarily writes science fiction romance but her gift for writing crosses genres. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve lost myself in one of her stories. I asked Pamela to take over from here with introductions and so forth.
Thank you for this opportunity to introduce myself! My author name is Pamela Schloesser Canepa.
Writing has been like second nature to me since childhood. I believe I always had an active imagination, maybe because my family travelled a lot when I was young and lived in many places for a while. Once, I thought I saw the moon trying to force its way back behind a cloud by pushing through it. The sun was already up on the other side of the sky, so the moon knew it was time to go. We were traveling somewhere by car, and maybe I was really tired, or maybe I know something you all don’t? I wrote a few stories as a child about finding a dinosaur in my uncle’s barn or being the proud owner of a talking horse that didn’t like my fiancé.
Why don’t these things happen in real life?
At any rate, I was writing poetry through the dark days of adolescence and let a friend read my poem in her English class. She told me a few people cried. I was so proud! There was a lot of poetry that no one would ever see. I think those works existed to help me work out some identity or confidence issues. I was still writing through marriage (secretly), a divorce, motherhood, etc. The confidence wasn’t there, but the writing continued.
I published a book of poetry in 2006 and family members really supported it. I must say, it was very personal, and I didn’t promote it much. The book is no longer in circulation.
I blogged a little for about ten years until I switched to Wordpress for my blogging and found several supportive blogger’s communities.
Then, I entered some short story contests on Wattpad and got some feedback which made me want to publish a book of fiction. I decided that some people will love it, some will say it’s okay, and others may not like it. All of that has to be okay with me. That seems to be the point when I knew I was ready to publish.
Made for Me was my first work of fiction, a sci-fi romance that started with a short story. There were three main characters, one of them an adopted child named Norrie. Norrie became the focus of two following books that are part of the Made for Me series.
I have further plans for Norrie and may even publish three of her novellas together in a longer book someday. She is driving the series now. She’s everything I wanted to be when I was younger, so I love writing through her eyes. I didn’t discover that until completing that first book, Made for Me.
Lately, I’ve been working on time travel with Detours in Time (released last year) and the soon to be released sequel, Undercurrents in Time.
As I grow, I am taking longer on my books and the writing steps to produce full-length novels. Ideas for novels based on side characters are coming to me. I may be producing one full-length novel a year for a while, as I’m still working full-time. No matter what my pace is, I will still be writing and even blogging about my writer’s process and sharing short fiction. It is, after all, who I am.
