Book Blurb:

Everyone says move on, he's gone. But Chloe Livingston just can't accept maybe for an answer.

Her idyllic life as a wife and baker at Camden Bake Shop crumbled when her husband, Jake, vanished one snowy night two years ago. Presumed dead, the investigation grew cold leaving her with more questions than answers and a hole in her heart that begs to be closed by knowing just what happened to her husband that fateful night. But life goes on. Two years later, Mitchell Terrison walked into her life. The handsome new detective for Knox County sparks a new investigation into Jake's disappearance. But that's not the only spark he ignites. New found friendship leads to feelings of guilt as Chloe reminds herself that, no matter what they say, she knows in her heart that he's alive. And she can't allow new love to find her until she gets closure.

But that's easier said than done.

My Review:

Two years ago, Chloe’s husband disappeared, presumed dead after the police discovered his car in the river. The case has grown cold but Chloe has never lost hope. She wants answers and finally, she has her chance. She meets Detective Mitchell and he agrees to reopen the case. A friendship blooms between Chloe and Mitchell, a friendship that tempts Chloe to explore romantic feelings with him. But her faith complicates things. Until her husband’s case is solved, she must honor her marital vows. New evidence turns up and everything Chloe believes to be true is thrown out the window. Could her husband be still alive? Will the police find his body after more than two years of searching? What about these romantic feelings Mitchell and Chloe share?

This story is unique in that it’s a true suspense with a clear faith-based romantic fiction narration. Bible verses and praying are peppered throughout the plot. While, for some readers, this can appear heavy-handed, I found it very illuminating to Chloe’s personality and faith. Every thought, action and reaction are based on her faith and her beliefs.

I must admit, there were certain formatting issues which made it more difficult for me to dive into the story, like I usually do with romantic suspense novels.

The suspense was well-conceived but there were times when it took a backseat to what I thought were superfluous subplots. The whole mystery behind her husband’s disappearance leaves Chloe in limbo through all facets in her life. My heart went out to her and I kept saying aloud, “Just declare him dead already.” The ending surprised me but I was satisfied with the conclusion.
