When Darla’s life is in jeopardy, will he follow his heart or turn his back on love? The Pirate'

Title: The Pirate's Jewel: Pirates of Britannia Connected World

Author: Ruth A. Casie

Genre: Historical Romance, Medieval, Pirate

Book Blurb:

Deception and family honor are at stake in a grand Scottish pirate adventure.

Wesley Reynolds will do anything to avenge his family’s banishment from Dundhragon Castle even throw in with the notorious pirate, MacAlpin. His plan, ruin Lord Ewan’s trading network. He has a more devious plan for his father’s ‘best friend,’ the man who abandoned them at the eleventh hour. He’ll ruin the man’s most precious jewel, his daughter Darla. Wesley’s so close to ruining the trade network and succeeding he can almost taste it, but revenge is not nearly as sweet as Darla’s kisses.

Darla Maxwell, beloved by her parents has no prospects of marriage. Her father and Lord Ewan search to find her the right husband. Darla’s special gifts are frightening to many. She has visions that often come true. The murky image of a man haunts her, she’s sure it’s Lord Ewan’s soon-to-be son-in-law, but the vision morphs when she meets Wesley. The meaning couldn’t be any clearer to her, her destiny lies with Wesley.

When revelations surface indicating Wesley has been deceived and his revenge misplaced. Will he find the truth of what really happened to his family in time to stop the pirates? Will Darla ever forgive him? Will he ever forgive himself?

My Review:

Darla Maxwell is gifted with special intuitive abilities though she finds herself unable to save those in her dreams in time. That is, until she meets tall, dark and handsome Wesley Mills. He’s the shrouded man of her dreams and she realizes her future happiness is woven with his.

Wesley Mills is a privateer and lives a double life. He’ll show kindness to a child in need but cross him and you’ll witness his rapier-sharp revenge. The truth is Wesley is hell-bent on enacting revenge on his father’s best friend, Darla’s father and his good friend, Lord Ewan. He’s thought of everything, including aligning himself with the malicious pirate MacAlpin. Everything is going according to plan when he meets Darla. The more he gets to know her and her father, Maxwell, the more questions haunt him. When Darla’s life is put in jeopardy, will he follow his heart or turn his back on love?

I love a good pirate romance and this one is one of the best I’ve read. Action? Check. Suspense? Check. Romance? Double check. Intrigue? Check. Can’t put down? Triple check.

This is my first Pirates of Britannia Connected World story and I was hooked from the very first page. Ruth A. Casie’s first foray into this bestselling series is a gem. Everything from the description of a pirate ship attack to the cryptic dreams of Darla are intricately laid out for the reader to absorb. The characters were easy to connect with and the betrayal is one I didn’t see coming. One of Ruth A. Casie’s best work and I look forward to reading more.

Favorite Character/Quote: Wesley. All he can think about is enacting his revenge and satisfying his late father’s request. But what if the truth isn’t what Wesley has been told all these years? He’s my favorite character because his growth is immense in this book. He goes from obsession to falling in love and redeeming himself over the course of the book. He admits his mistake and vows to show Darla how much he’s sorry for the grief he’s caused.
