Title: A Fallacious Seduction

Author: Virginia Barlow

Genre: Historical Romance

Book Blurb:

The Calhan Brides Series book one:

When the train US Marshal Reese Calhan is riding on explodes, he is one of two survivors. Trouble is, the other survivor is the woman who betrayed him years ago. A woman he thought was dead. This time he will not fall prey to her wiles. He'll see the vixen jailed for her crimes if it kills him.

Recovering from a recent jilting and now a train explosion, Shanna Johnston has no idea why the handsome stranger insists he knows her and calls her by another woman's name. His heated looks and knowing kisses spark a fire in her she cannot ignore--even as her own mysterious past is closing in.

Excerpt:

Shanna’s anger rose. What the hell is his problem?

What difference does it make where I go or what I do?

It was easy to see why the man was single. No woman

in her right mind would put up with the idiot, even if he

was handsome as hell. This Jenna must have figured it

out and left him. Was the man sore about Jenna leaving

him, so he threatened to lock Shanna up because he

hated women? “Okay, mister, I’m going to use simple

sentences so you can understand. We have been in a

train wreck. We are stranded. We will be walking. It’s

going to be dark soon. There are dead bodies all around

us. There are wolves living here. I do not like wolves. I

want to go. Now!”

He frowned. “Where are you trying to get to?”

Shanna rolled her eyes. At least the simple

sentence thing worked. She was finally getting through.

“Pine Bluffs,” Shanna said. She jerked her arm from his

grasp and started walking.

The man frowned. “What’s in Pine Bluffs?” Her

answer took him by surprise, judging from the look on

his face.

Shanna stopped. The man was lucky his Jenna

didn’t shoot him right between the eyes for being so

annoying. Shanna toyed with the idea and then

As appealing as the notion was, she didn’t

have a gun. Shooting him would make more blood.

More blood meant more wolves. More wolves meant

she needed to get the hell out of here. “Someone has to

tell them about the train, and I need to get home.”

Shanna explained slowly so the man would understand.

He narrowed his eyes at her. “Where’s home?” he

persisted.

Shanna could see his mind working over-time.

“What do you care? Are you planning on following me

all the way? Listen, mister. I told you. I am not this

Janie, Jennie woman. I have no idea who the woman is.

My name is Shanna. Where I go, and where I live is

none of your business. So, let go of my arm, and go

threaten somebody else.” Shanna stood toe to toe with

the giant. She had to tilt her head all the way back to

look into his eyes. It took the wheel off her wagon

when she realized how much bigger he was than her.

So, she focused on the top button of his denim shirt

instead and gave it a good glare.

The man stared at her. Shanna fancied she could

see the cogs turning in his head.

He pulled his gun free from his holster and shot at

her feet. His gaze never left hers.

Shanna jumped so hard; she was afraid she

dislodged something.

“Where is home?” he persisted, his gaze boring

into her.

Shanna glanced down at her feet, and her knees

buckled. A dead rattlesnake lay curled next to her

boots. She looked back at him in disbelief. She had

never seen anybody so good with a gun.
