Title: A Lilli By Any Other Name

Author: Virginia Barlow

Genre: Historical Western Romance

Book Blurb:

Disguised as a boy to escape her uncle and his assassins, Rebecca Lillian Van Rassner runs a trapline with her father in the Canadian northwest. Yearning for her old life in New York, love, and a husband, she gives up all hope, until a handsome mounted police officer stumbles upon their cabin. And captures her heart with his mesmerizing blue eyes and heated kisses. Officer Max Calhan patrols the extreme north to bring villains to justice and discovers a wispy boy who transforms into a beautiful woman filled with surprises, secrets, and dangerous relatives. Determined to find the truth, Max discovers there’s more to Lilli than just a name.

My Review:

Escaping her uncle leads Lilli to pretend to be a boy instead of a beautiful young woman. She’s in hiding along with her father in the Canadian wilderness. But all that changes when she meets handsome Max, part of the Canadian mounted police. Can she trust her heart and her deep secrets to Max, or will her uncle finally catch up to her?

A Lilli By Any Other Name is a historical romance with suspense, adventure, and the beauty of the Canadian wilderness. Virginia Barlow is a prolific romance author who has outdone herself here. The descriptive narration is immersive, allowing the reader to dive into the story. The historical accuracy is spot-on. The romance is complex, with the emotional tension front and center. Once I started, I couldn’t stop reading.

The characters are what give A Lilli By Any Other Name its substance and depth. I connected with Lilli right away. Her growth over the course of this book is immense. She’s been in hiding but cannot escape Max’s love and protection.

Max, meanwhile, is a hero in uniform and one of character too. I connected with him right away. Readers who love a hero in uniform will fall quickly for Max.

There are so many reasons to love this romance but as a Canadian, I’d have to say the setting is my top reason to read this romance. Where else but the heart of Canada’s frontier can you find love while in hiding from very bad men. Historical romance readers, pick up this book today and fall in love with Lilli and Max.
