Book Blurb:

A Reservoir Man, critics have hailed this explosive and timely work as “a must-read coming-of-age story of 2022.”

Twists and turns further pull the reader into Michael’s action-packed tale, with powerful themes, from betrayal and family to secrets and identity.

My Review:

My first thought when picking up this book is it was about a guy who liked to swim. Or maybe a guy who takes care of drinking water for a community. Or maybe a guy who owned a bourbon warehouse. Alas, this is the story about a man.

This is the story of Michael. It takes roughly half the book to get that it is a coming-of-age story about someone who might have been called a type of savant in the 50s and 60s. The question of your personal identity is foremost in this book.

The bigger point here could be that it isn't necessary to quickly determine your identity and direction. You can let life lead you down a path and see where it goes and there is nothing wrong with that. Michael, at times, seems like the pinball in a machine that just bounds about the board. Sometimes he hits a bumper, sometimes he hits a flashing light. There is possibly a bonus round at least once.

A book that could be beneficial for LGBTQ readers. A book for people who like to read coming-of-age stories. Not many coming-of-age stories are like this book. The chronological nature of the writing does make it easier to follow.

My Rating: 4.75 stars
