Title: Altiplano and other Short Stories

Author: David Bassano

Genre: Literary Fiction Short Stories

Book Blurb:

Altiplano and other Short Stories is a literary fiction collection of short stories, flash fiction, and poetry. Many of the stories reflect the author's human rights work, giving the collection a human rights slant. However, the stories encompass a wide range of topics, from life in the music industry to martial arts tournaments to even a little science fiction. There’s something for everyone in this anthology.

My Review:

A short story collection like I have never seen before. There is literally something here for everyone. If you have the classic 21st century fifteen second attention span, there are short stories just for you. If you like longer, thought provoking stories, they are here too. For the most part, this is a collection of stories about life. Life in all its glory or in its tragedy. Some stories are evocative, some are uplifting, some are maddening.

A few notes on individual stories that caught my eye for example:

Ethan's Tale may remind some readers of the first singer of a famous British metal band who loved performing but didn't like the limelight that success brought.

Meridian Arms is such a touching story, reminiscent of the Christmas song Rudy by The Be Good Tanyas.

One story that stands out is the sci-fi story. It is the only sci-fi in the entire book so you can't help but have it catch your eye.

This book is a classic example of the ability to write about what you know. The stories here do not just encompass life but incorporate life as the author has experienced it. There are dark stories, sad stories, crazy stories, deeply odd stories, simple life stories. You want it, you got it. This is a book worth picking up and perusing as there is definitely something worth finding in here.

My Rating: 5 stars
