Title: Amour in Avignon

Author: Jennifer Ivy Walker

Genre: Steamy Romance

Book Blurb:

Adrift and lonely, Lily Greene travels to Provence to spend the summer with her aunt in the sunny south of France. In the vibrant city of Avignon, she meets Ludo and Auguste, two expert fencers who are also local actors performing in the upcoming Festival of Theater where they will present the classical tragedy, Cyrano de Bergerac.

When Lily joins their thespian troupe, portraying the lead female role, she discovers that real life mirrors the play they are rehearsing, for--just as Cyrano and Christian vie for Roxane-- Ludo and Auguste become intense rivals for Lily.

Handsome as a Hollywood movie star, Auguste is used to women falling into his bed. But when Lily spurns his amorous advances, drawn instead to the enigmatic Ludo, jealousy drives Auguste to seek revenge.

Will tragedy strike with a cruel twist of fate? Or will love triumph with Amour in Avignon?

My Review:

Life imitates art when Lily spends the summer in Avignon, France. Will her love affair end in tragedy or will amour prevail? In this steamy romance, Jennifer Ivy Walker writes a modern take of Cyrano de Bergerac and it’s brilliant. Passionate writing flows from every page as the romantic triangle develops. These characters will capture your heart as will the gorgeous setting.

Let’s start with the descriptive narration and setting. Jennifer Ivy Walker has a gift for writing narration with intricate detail, emotion, and with an artistic flair. Each scene is beautifully described, so much so that I closed my eyes and could picture it clearly. The setting is also incredibly detailed so that by the end of the story, you will feel like you’ve been to Avignon.

Characters are also written with an artist’s pen. Lily is a heroine I connected with on so many levels. Seeing life in Avignon from her viewpoint was an intoxicating experience. She’s at a crossroads in her life and has a summer she’ll never forget. The two men, Ludo and Auguste, who vie for her attention are well-written. The rest of the characters add depth to the overall story.

There are some books which have an impact on you, stay with you for long periods after you finish reading. This is one of those books. I loved it and am still thinking about it today. A brilliant romance written by an author who lives and breaths romance in all eras and tropes.

My Rating: 5+ stars
