Title: At First Sight: Global Security Unlimited 1

Author: Sharon Michalove

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Book Blurb:

Twenty years ago, Cress Taylor and Max Grant were strangers in Oxford, England, but when their paths crossed, a spark was lit. Now, in the hustle of bustling Chicago, Cress is a successful novelist receiving mysterious threats, and Max is a former spy working for a global security company. When Max sees Cress in a TV interview, it ignites his curiosity. They soon find themselves tangled in an intense game of cat and mouse. As Max swoops in to protect Cress from anonymous threats, they must decide if they are willing to risk their hearts and take a chance on love. As threats escalate and Max's big Scottish family arrives in Chicago for Christmas, Cress and Max must learn to trust each other and overcome their fears to have a Happy New Year. If you enjoy the development of romantic love combined with a suspenseful thriller, you'll love At First Sight.

This book is a second-chance romance with mature couples; smart, resilient heroines; devastatingly adorable heroes; a contemporary urban vibe with a slow-burn fade to black.

Nominated in the suspense/thriller category for the 2022 InD’tale RONE Awards.

My Review:

As the threats mount, Cress and Max puts their hearts on the line while learning the power of love. At First Sight is a romantic suspense featuring an intelligent heroine with a penchant for stumbling and a sexy British ex-spy. The romance is second chance with a fair dose of suspense. The descriptive narration is immersive and allows the reader to dive into the story. The plot is equal parts romance and suspense. The twists and turns kept me riveted. At First Sight is one book I couldn’t put down.

Let’s start with the characters. Cress is a gem of a heroine. She’s your average woman who’s wicked smart yet isn’t quite sure of herself. She doesn’t think she’s a beauty, yet Max sees her as beautiful. She’s an accomplished novelist who’s receiving a distinguished award but she’s receiving threats. I connected with her from the very first page. Well written and easy to relate to.

Max is a handsome British man who used to work for MI6. He’s a hero any woman would swoon over. He’s a lovely mix of cinnamon roll hero with the virility of a modern-day Bond. I couldn’t get enough of him.

The descriptive narration, plot progression, suspenseful plot twists, action scenes, and dialogue combine to make At First Sight an exquisite reading experience. Sharon Michalove has a gift for writing, and it comes across in the pages of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed At First Sight and can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
