Author: McKenna Dean

Genre: Paranormal Romance, Romance

Book Blurb:

Bake a cake for the Ladies Association meeting? Give her a cold, hard killer to apprehend any day... Newly-minted secret agent Rhett Bishop would rather face down a horde of angry wolf shifters or her father’s former mob contacts than accept her current assignment: pose undercover as a suburban housewife, complete with a husband, slippers, and pipe. But after the debacle of her previous mission, Rhett has a lot to prove. To redeem herself in the eyes of Redclaw Security, and to carry out her mission without distractions, she must table her budding relationship with Peter Knight while the two of them uncover the secrets of Forest Grove. Armed with her trusty ray gun, her unique little dog, and Knight’s brains, Rhett is confident she can handle whatever the suburbs can throw at her. Until they lob a curveball. If you like Gini Koch’s “Kitty” Katt alien series, you’ll love Redclaw Origins It’s Bringing up Baby meets WH-13. It’s X-Files meets Leave it to Beaver. Sequel to Bishop Takes Knight: Named a Top Pick by The Romance Reviews. Awarded a Crowned Heart of Excellence by InD’Tale Magazine. My Review:

Bishop and Knight are back for another adventure. This time, though, they’re infiltrating Forest Grove, a cozy little suburb, posing as a married couple. There have been reports of unusual sightings, including UFO’s and their boss, Ryker, can’t spare any agents for the assignment. Rhett Bishop wants to be back out in the field as an agent but her budding relationship with Peter Knight has her more confused than ever. Can she handle being in such close quarters with him, day after day? He’s giving off mixed signals, but she reluctantly agrees. Armed with her trusty ray gun and her adorable dog, Captain, Rhett embodies the housewife role. As she and Peter investigate the paranormal occurrences and possible artifacts in Forest Grove, they both uncover not only what’s happening but also what a great team they make. But they’re unprepared for what lies ahead…

I adored book one and was so thrilled when McKenna Dean announced a sequel was coming. Squeal! Bishop’s Gambit is just as good as book one but with more of a focus on their budding relationship. Historically accurate with a fair share of 1950’s biases, McKenna brings a new aspect with a group of shifters who want to be out in the open, not hidden from the world. The message is underplayed but is there. The plot moves at a great pace with plenty of witty banter between Rhett and Peter. Even with it being only from Rhett’s perspective, Peter’s feelings for her are clear, at least to me. The paranormal suspense scenes propel the plot and I whipped through the pages. The secondary characters are such fun to read as is the antics of Captain, Rhett’s furry little sidekick. The ending left it open for book three, which I can’t wait to read! If you’re looking for a romantic spy adventure set in the 1950’s (think Cleevers), you’ve got to read Bishop’s Gambit. Highly recommend!
