Title: Bull
Author: Weston Jost
Genre: Western Historical Fiction
Book Blurb:
It’s the 1870s. Two notorious Texas outlaws and their bandit gang have kidnapped four Texas women whom they plan to sell to a brothel in Monterrey, Mexico…if they can get past the Indians. What the outlaws don't realize is that one of the young women has some very surprising ways to take revenge. To rescue the women, a Laredo, Texas marshal has to illegally pursue them into Mexico, but he’s worried because his hastily assembled posse resembles more of a circus act than a team of capable lawmen. Can he rescue the women before he and his posse are killed? And who’s going to rescue the marshal from his…unusual horse? It’s a race against time and a rollicking ride into the wilder side of the wild west with some of the most colorful characters this side (and the other side) of the Rio Grande. A real hoot in boots!
My Review:
Come listen to a story about a horse named Bull, a rather large animal who kept his tummy full. Then one day when he was working in a circus, along came a gambler who won him with a ....
This is an entertaining western written in the classic Mag 7 style. One has to keep in mind the star really is Bull. There are many people who orbit around the planet that is Bull but, in the end, it is all about Bull.
There is a certain wonder at the skill, ingenuity, and vengeance of Katy. There is something Old Testament appreciative about how she operates her craft. Those who sin in a certain way are visited upon in a balanced approach of much-applauded vengeance.
Bull simply hooks the reader and carries them through. The author has the gift of being able to keep a reader engaged with a story that just moves forward. The bad guys are bad, the good guys are mostly good, and the ends used by the good always justify their means.
A grand western novel written in classic fashion. Fans of Old West novels will love this book. People who love books about horses will enjoy this book. A book for people who want to lose themselves out of the day-to-day mire of 2020/21 and find refuge in good fiction.
