Title: CAT-ATONIC
Author: Sue C Dugan
Genre: Young Adult Fantasy/Romance
Book Blurb:
Sixteen-year-old Nick Dupont has reincarnated memories inhabiting his mind from past lives. Nick is released from the hospital after heart surgery in a deep catatonic depression, and a new soul seems to be sharing his memories. He would like a way to banish him from his mind.
Catherine Anne Thomlinson (Cat) knows she’s reincarnated and is part of Nick’s memories and he’s part of hers. But even Nick’s girlfriend Emily can’t change the dreams and visions Nick begins having about a civil war soldier named Jonathan. And worse still, Cat says she’s returning to Laketon and wants to see him.
Excerpt:
Nick and his mother left Dr. Garson’s and were pulling away when it started to rain. Not a gentle rain either—a continuous downpour, rain that obscured the windshield even with the wipers going at top speed.
“Wow,” was all Nick could say.
“Wow, is right.” His mother pulled over. “I can’t drive in this.”
They parked and listened to soft music on the radio.
“I guess we’re stuck here,” Nick said.
“Don’t you love Michigan weather?” his mother mumbled and wiped at the condensation on the side window, but they only saw endless rain.
Nick wasn’t particularly concerned. If he were at home, he would go to bed. This way, he could watch the waves of water run down and over their car, mesmerizing sheets of gray/blue. The intermingling of colors caused a stab of pain in his right temple. He gingerly rubbed the spot, wondering why rain would cause such a reaction in his head.
“Hmm.” Nick reclined his seat and settled back. “I think I’ll take a nap.” A yawn escaped, slurring his words.
“Go ahead.” His mother gave him an encouraging smile. “We might be here for a spell.”
Nick settled back and was asleep, only to feel a tap on his arm.
“You’ll catch your death of cold,” the cart driver said.
I covered my head with the remains of my Union blue coat as we waited out the storm. The rain didn’t seem to deter the Rebels. Soaked or not, they continued pushing ahead. Hundreds of them, a continuous blur of blue/gray swarming over and around our hiding place.
Me and the cart driver stayed hidden in the trees, waiting and watching for the Confederate Rebs to pass. The rain, a deluge, made the cart’s bed waterlogged and the bags of onions dark with moisture.
I tried sleeping, only to feel the cart move out of the trees.
“You still alive, Jonathan?” the cart driver asked. “We were stuck here for a right long spell.”
“The Rebels gone?” Nick mumbled.
“What?” his mother asked.
“Nothing.” He quickly sat up and scrubbed at his eyes. “Just a dream.”
She put on her blinker, and they merged into the traffic, the wheels sending up waves of dirty water from the street. Nick felt disoriented and off balance as the unfamiliar scenery went by, all the while searching for the sea of gray amongst the cars and trucks. The Rebels were gone. Hallelujah.

Author Biography:
Sue writes five-star LitPick novels that keep readers of all ages turning pages long into the night. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, attending author events, or walking her dogs. She has two children and five grandchildren. Snack wise, Sue is a salty-type gal, but wouldn’t say no to an occasional chocolate kiss or two! She isn’t sure she’s a reincarnated author, but if she was, she’d want to be Jane Austen, Mary Shelley, or Emily Brontë. When her novels are run through author comparison sites, she gets Anne Rice through Mark Twain—quite a wide spread which makes for interesting reading (Tom Sawyer was a Vampire?).
