My Review:

A terrifying post-apocalyptic tale that merges monsters both human and inhuman in the vein of Stephen King’s The Stand.

In this third instalment of Andrew Masseurs A Day in the Life Series, we return to the events of the second book. This time they’re told through different perspectives of other important characters to paint a full picture of the story before we’re introduced to The Hunter. Teresa and Lucy Stevenson get their own perspectives this time as do Paul Tully and Steven. The author does a great job of telling us a new story yet combining it into previous events, so readers get to know all the characters in a way that isn’t confusing at all.

Once again, the setting plays a vital role in this version of Earth where humanity is nearing its end and brand-new races of creatures are taking over. Danger waits around every corner waiting to pounce on the survivors—especially in the dark at night. The days are shortening, giving the monsters more hours to prowl and feast on the remaining humans.

The plotting is terrifying, and the pacing is breakneck from the first page to the last. With the dangers coming from sources human and inhuman, the characters don’t get many chances to breathe before a new threat emerges. Slowly, more details of the worldbuilding are coming into play, giving the readers hints of what may be happening and what could happen next. All in all, a unique and thrilling story that fans of the dystopian and post-apocalyptic will love.
