Title: Diamonds, Dunes, & Death

Author: Louise Stevens

Genre: Cozy Mystery

Book Blurb:

I’m Millie Wentworth and I never thought I’d be involved in another murder, but here I am smack dab in the middle of a crime wave at the swanky resort where I’m Assistant General Manager. It started with a major diamond heist and ended with a dead body on the beach.

When one of my grandmother Lulu’s group of fun-loving septuagenarian friends is a prime suspect it’s time for Lulu’s Crew, Spud the corgi, and me, to get sleuthing and uncover the real criminals.

And because dodging mobsters, international jewel thieves, and solving crimes isn’t stressful enough, my hypercritical parents are in town too. My mother doesn’t approve of Lulu and me in the best of times, and these are decidedly not the best of times. Plus she’s already planning my imaginary wedding to my kinda-sorta boyfriend Scott.

All I need to do is catch a murderer plus a jewel thief and survive my parents’ visit. No problem, right?

My Review:

A ballsy diamond heist, a dead body on the beach, and Millie’s parents visiting…yup, just another eventful week for poor Millie. All Millie wanted was a nice quiet time with her parents’ visiting, complete with the gnashing of teeth and sucking in deep breaths. Just once, she wished her mother would be proud of her accomplishments. But any semblance of fun goes out the window when a giant pink diamond gets stolen, and a dead jeweler is found on the beach. The police finger one of Lulu’s Crew, Hannah, as the killer so it’s time for Millie to don her sleuthing cap. Instead of Millie’s mother avoiding the murder as Millie expects, she gets in on the amateur sleuth action. Can Millie unravel the clues and sniff out the real killer before Hannah discovers orange isn’t the new fashion color?

Diamonds, Dunes, & Death is a cozy mystery you’ll want to curl up to, whether on the beach, out in your backyard, or late at night. With the perfect blend of mystery, mayhem, and humor, this book is one you won’t be able to put down. Millie is a well-written heroine with a penchant for getting into trouble. I swear, she has a mum like mine. The mother-daughter dynamics had me clutching my sides as tears ran down my face. Louise Stevens is a brilliant comedic writer, and her timing is impeccable. The dialogue is peppered with funny lines, slap-stick comedy, and tongue-in-cheek humor. The mystery is well-drawn with a full cast of suspects, an inept police detective, and clues planted so as not to be obvious to the reader. As a read, I quickly became addicted to the story, and read late into the night. In addition to the mystery, love blooms for Millie. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Millie fall for her sweet, caring boyfriend Scott. When the murderer was revealed, it took me by surprise, but in a good way. If you love cozy mysteries, you’ll want to read Diamonds, Dunes, & Death. A funny cozy mystery not to be missed, pick up Diamonds, Dunes, & Death today. I can’t wait for the next installment in the series. Highly recommend!
