Title: Double Dutch: a fake relationship romantic comedy (Love in the Lowlands Book 3)
Author: D.E. Haggerty
Genre: Romantic Comedy, Contemporary Romance
Book Blurb:
She thinks their relationship is fake. But he’s not faking a thing. Moving to Holland was supposed to be my second chance with my husband. Snort. Some second chance. It doesn’t take long before Bob’s up to his old tricks. Only this time, he goes further and leaves me to shack up with some floozy in Prague. Without him here in Holland with me, it looks like I’m going to get kicked out of the country. I need a man to be my fake partner pronto. Enter Matthijs. He jumps into the role despite our meet and greet ending in tears and chocolate stains. Don’t ask.
When my husband comes back – demanding I return to him or else – Matthijs makes it clear he’s not letting me go. The six-foot-five rugged piece of manhood can’t possibly be serious. I’m no catch – despite the abundance of zeroes soon to be in my bank account. I know I need to go back to my husband. There are reasons – I’m not a complete pushover, I swear! But I don’t want to give up Matthijs. Not when he’s shown me how a real man treats a woman. Rock meet hard place. What to do? This fake relationship romantic comedy features a woman whose self-confidence has gone south for the winter, a rugby playing mountain of a man determined to delete the fake in their relationship, and two nosy friends who think meddling in a friend’s life is included in the definition of friend. Each book in the Love in the Lowlands romantic comedy series can be read as a standalone.
My Review:
On the brink of being kicked out of Holland, Mia agrees to a fake relationship, but love is anything but fictitious. Mia moves to Holland, giving her marriage a second chance. When her husband, Bob, leaves Mia to live with some bimbo, Mia’s in the middle of an immigration nightmare. Rugby player Mattijs offers to help by joining her in a fake relationship. A girl could get used to this fake love thing. Everything is running smoothly until Bob demands Mia returns to him or else. Mattijs refuses to let her go. Mia doesn’t know what to do. Can she decide which man she’ll be with, no matter the consequences? Love is a tricky mistress, especially when it comes to fake relationships.
Double Dutch is a laugh-out-loud romantic comedy I couldn’t put down. The trope of fake relationship romance is brilliantly portrayed with D.E. Haggerty’s comedic timing and delectable romantic tension. Mia is a flawed heroine every reader will relate to on some level. Women have had their fair share of ‘Bobs’ in their lives and hopefully one or two ‘Mattijs’. I adore D.E. Haggerty's stories for many reasons but the main one is her humorous dialogue. It’s sheer brilliance. The characters are so much fun to read. The beautiful country of Holland is also on display. I learned more customs and Dutch words. Huzzah! The romance between Mia and Mattijs will melt your heart. If you’re a romantic comedy fanatic like me, you’ll love Double Dutch. If you’re looking to fall in love, pick up Double Dutch. If fake relationship romance is your romance jam, you’ll adore Double Dutch. Highly recommend!
