Excerpt:

That night, Crystal dressed in a long, white silk negligée. Another extravagant gift from her husband. She turned as Paul entered the room dragging something behind him. Oh no, he’s putting that creepy mirror in here with us. “Darling, can you put that thing somewhere else?”

As Paul looked up from where he was setting the mirror, light bounced across his short gray hair. “Why?”

She grimaced. I don’t want to sound unappreciative of his expensive gift. But try as she might, she couldn’t come up with a compelling argument for Paul to move his latest gift to the guestroom. “It’s a little kinky putting a mirror right next to the bed. You plan to seduce me, darling? You should know by now, I’m a sure thing.”

Paul gave a hearty laugh and grinned that sweet grin of his. “I’m putting this here, so your new present will be the first thing you see in the morning.”

He went around the footboard to his side of their French art deco queen-sized bed and climbed in.

Crystal hopped in and snuggled under the blue and brown handmade quilt, but soon pulled it off. Too hot for a blanket. “Nighty night, darling.”

“Sweet dreams, baby.” He brushed his lips against hers and caressed her breast.

She melted against him.

Pulling away with a smile, he turned off the lamp on his side of the bed.

Trying to suppress a dejected sigh, she reached over for the switch and clicked her light off. She knew he couldn’t help it, but it had been nearly a year since they’d made love. And she really wished he’d get some of those pills. Birthday nooky would have been wonderful.

Moonlight from the full moon came in past the blue cottage-style curtains. She swore the damn wood frame on the mirror squirmed around like snakes. It creeped her out. Even curled up in her husband’s arms, sleep was a long time coming.

Sometime in the wee hours of the morning, a light flashed and settled on Crystal’s face.

She blinked and held a hand in front of her eyes. “What the…?”

The light pulsed and seemed to be coming from the odd mirror.

“Crystal, Crystal, Crystaaaal,” said an odd lilting voice. “Come over here. I want to look at you.”

Crystal swung her feet to the floor but checked on her husband first. He lay curled on his side, snoring. If it wasn’t him that spoke, then who?

With a start, she realized a handsome man with long, straight jet-black hair and bright green eyes was staring at her through the mirror.

Holding a hand to her chest, she glanced toward the curtained windows. No, it isn’t a reflection but even if it was, it wouldn’t be that clear. “What are you doing in the mirror? Are you trapped behind the glass?”

“Yeeess, an evil sorcerer imprisoned me here and only you can save me. The spell was cast so only a kind man bestowing this mirror to a good woman can let me out. And that good woman is you, Crystal.” His voice, deep and sensual, drew her closer.

Crystal reached toward the mirror and touched the ice-cold glass. “You’re mistaken. I don’t see how I can help you.”

“No, you’re my beautiful, Crystal.” His fingertip came through the mirror, and his hand grabbed around her wrist, and yanked.
