Title: Every Mile a Memory
Author: Grea Warner
Genre: Contemporary Women’s Fiction
Book Blurb:
A chance encounter leads to a road never imagined and the possibility of dreams coming true.
Going on tour with a band was never on Maya Shriver’s radar. But then neither was being a widow in her mid-thirties. And finding happiness again? Well, that was out of the question.
When danger erupts, Maya is abruptly thrown together with Hawk Brannigan—a country singer’s right-hand man. And she finds out that, once again, life can change in an instant. Suddenly, Maya is not only in a new career but she’s also allowing herself to love again.
As Maya begins to unpack her grief and move on, a misunderstanding from the past may cause the couple to travel in different directions.
Excerpt:
My stomach was rumbling worse than when I had first gotten out of that death trap of a shelter. I was more dazed than when Finn had first offered me the initial job. I was in a state of disbelief, similar to when I was on my way to the hospital the last day of Jeff’s life.
And, yet, it had to be true. I had even double checked. And there I was standing in front of Hawk’s door. It was the first time I was ever at his place, and it was going to be with such shocking news.
“Hi, Mai.” He greeted me with a hug.
I looked in his eyes, wondering if I could pre-read them…wondering if I could predict the future…if I could tell how everything was going to go…how he was going to react…if it was the last time I would look in those eyes…if that had been our last embrace. “Hi.” I got the one word out.
“I’m glad you’re here. What’s up? What took so long?”
I had originally planned on coming hours before—us spending more of the day together. But a mid-morning phone call had changed all that. I had needed to regroup and take as much charge of the situation as I could before finally making my way to his Tennessee townhome.
“I…I had to take care of some things.”
He had my hand and was leading me through the hardwood hallway into the similarly floored family room. “If it’s about the move…”
“No.”
“Come on, sit down.” He started toward the neutral-colored sofa. “I want to talk to you about th—”
“Hawk….” I didn’t sit.
So neither did he. “Maya? What is it? What’s wrong?”
I dropped his hand and turned from him. I looked down at the brown and white Oriental rug, over to the inactive brick fireplace with expansive art piece of the Nashville skyline above, to the beige-carpeted stairs leading up to the rest of the home, and to the door leading to the back yard. Finally, I glanced at the three framed photos of his family. I looked anywhere but at him.

What’s your favorite thing about autumn:
While I treasure the relaxed pace summer provides, I am really a fall gal at heart. I like the dark, cooler nights where the breeze whispers through open windows. Jeans and light jackets are clothes I could wear all year long. And, I grew up in a family and town that loves their football and hockey. So, the autumn season brings both of those on full force!
What inspired you to write this story:
I love telling the story of how this book came to be! Summer concerts are one of my favorite pastimes. A group of friends and I were exiting a concert and started talking with the people around us. They mentioned that they were going to travel to see the band in the Riviera Maya. As much as we wanted to book tickets, too, it wasn’t meant to be for us. But it got me to thinking … what if we did go on a girls getaway and met up with the band and …
That is how Every Mile a Memory starts. I decided to name the main character Maya since the whole idea started from the Riviera Maya. After researching the name, I found out it has to do with fertility. So, I put a little spin on that fact to further the story along. The only thing I needed was a male lead in the novel. A reader mentioned to me that they hoped Hawk, in the Country Roads series, would have his own story. So … voila!
My tagline is: emotional … dramatic … heartwarming. And Every Mile a Memory most definitely hits all three of those. Told in first person, the reader gets to experience Maya’s inner thoughts as she begins to move on from the grief of losing her husband and learns to love again. Both she and Hawk have physical and emotional obstacles to overcome to be together. And it all starts on the opening page when they first meet amongst the sound of gunfire.
