The solution is marriage, so we have a reason to dislike each other…

Handsome, billionaire Cruise Thorn—and his brothers—has always lived life doing what he wanted and who he wanted. If money didn’t get him what he wanted, his blue eyes and big smile always did.

When their father’s last bit of patience unravels, things are about to get real.

The Thorn brothers have a year to marry, set some roots, or they will be cut off from the family riches.

After spending most of his life searching the bottom of whiskey bottles and entertaining soft curves in rotating beds, Cruise is ready to turn a different leaf. But marriage? Nah. He’ll pass.

But he meets Rose Lee. Every Thorn needs a rose, and he has a hankering for the sassy brunette who isn't impressed with his money or looks. She's independent, strong, beautiful, and looks at Cruise like he's day old bread.

Is he up for the challenge? He just might have to marry her and see…

Excerpt

“Let me get this straight. You must marry someone within the year, or you’ll lose the Thorn fortune?”

“That’s basically what it boils down to.”

“And you’d rather be married to someone you don’t love over being poor? You should be ashamed of yourself.”

He blinked. “Says the woman who chooses neither.”

She opened her mouth to argue, but words didn’t come. “Go find someone else. I’m sure you can.”

“If I were thinking straight, I’d probably follow that advice, but there’s just something about your ebullient disposition that makes me smile.”

“Have you taken a hard look at yourself lately, cowboy?”

“Every morning when I walk into the bathroom.”

She rolled her eyes. “Great.”

“Did you just roll your eyes at me?” he muttered. “People don’t roll their eyes at me.”

Seeing his astonished expression, she bit her bottom lip to keep from laughing. “Trust me, they do. They just don’t do it to your face.” She dumped the veggies into a bowl and started tearing lettuce into pieces.

“Do you enjoy being a smartass?”

“It’s the highlight of my day.” She wasn’t sure why she allowed him to get her all razzed. This wasn’t like her, to be so…well, smartass-ey. “You’ve asked your question, and the answer is a hard pass. You can go now.”

“I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss this opportunity. Being married to me would have its perks.”

“Really?” When his smile grew, she gave her head a shake, wishing she didn’t feel warmth in her inner thighs. “You truly are full of yourself, aren’t you? If I agreed to this…ludicrous idea, sex wouldn’t be part of the agreement.”

“If anyone’s full of themselves, it’s you. Sex didn’t even pop into my head. I wouldn’t want to have sex with you.” He rubbed his rigid jaw.

She wasn’t sure how to take his declaration. It didn’t matter because she had no plans to marry him. No matter what he offered. They’d probably kill each other if they had to live under one roof. “I’m busy. Think you can see yourself out?”

He opened his mouth as if he wanted to argue but thought better of trying. “Frogs will still be yours. Nothing worse than seeing a shithole with bad management.” He reached into pocket and withdrew a card, tossing it on top of the paperwork. “That’s my attorney’s number. He can answer any questions you have.” After planting his hat back on his head, he left the kitchen. A second later she heard the front door open and close quietly.

Author Biography

Rhonda Lee Carver is a bestselling author of contemporary western and romantic suspense, but she loves to write other genres too. She's known for writing stories that keep readers laughing, crying, gripping the edge of their seats, and screaming all in one book...like riding a virtual roller coaster. Whether she's creating sexy cowboys or tough guys, or sassy, independent heroines, readers are sure to find strong, powerful, memorable characters that are relatable.

By day, she taps into her creative, fictional world but at some point she transitions back into reality where she's a volleyball-stands cheerleader, homework virtuoso (at least she thinks so), amateur nurse to skinned knees, mediocre chef with some awesome microwave skills, pet-guru (all the strays show up at her house), and a Jackie of all trades for her kids who are the loves of her life. Yoga and chocolate keep her sane. Hallmark movies require cuddling up with tissues because she can be emotional. She adds a sprinkle of her own real-life adventures in each story she spins because a little truth never hurt anyone. She wouldn't give up one thing in her crazy, chaotic, ever-amusing life, except, she might do magic tricks for the bungalow on the beach she's had her eye on (GOALS).

Writing for Rhonda is like falling in love and finding a new best friend over and over again. Her characters will find a place inside your heart too.
