Author: Kate Berberich

Genre: Sweet Romance

Book Blurb:

Take Maggie Edwards, a skilled paramedic who transferred to a quaint little town to rehab her heart after the jerk of an ex stomped all over it. Add Brad MacKenzie, a handsome, kind-hearted cat rescuer who gave up on romance long ago.

Socialize gently. Sprinkle liberally with sweet friends and salty colleagues. Infuse with found family and season with second chances. Serve in a Halloween candy bowl garnished with cute fluffy kittens.

My Review:

Falling for the Cat Guy is everything you expect from the title—and so much more.

Kate Berberich has given us the perfect fall love story, guaranteed to tug at your heartstrings and have you rooting for the couple to overcome all their obstacles—and obstacles there are.

Maggie Edwards, a skilled paramedic, has transferred to the quaint town of Carson Mills after her heart gets broken by her ex. She discovers her neighbor is handsome Brad MacKenzie, who has a soft heart for cats. The heart is so soft, he’s converted his large home into a cat shelter with the help of his veterinarian sister.

The problem? They both work crazy hours. When there’s an emergency, she must be available. And when a kitten’s life is in danger, he’s not going to check what time it is. The sparks are there, but can they make time for each other?

This story is small town romance at its best. Their budding relationship can hardly be kept private because the entire town knows their every move—and there aren’t too many places to go in a small town.

Maggie and Brad are my new favorite couple. Maggie is the perfect blend of independence and vulnerability. I felt her need to make sure Brad knew she worked in a male-dominated profession. Yet, her ability to accept his, Elsie, and Hollyn’s help made her a realistic character.

And I think Brad’s my new book boyfriend. He’s handsome and compassionate and he loves cats. What more could you want from a guy? He’s adorable because he’s oblivious to everything but his writing and his cats. So when Maggie enters his life, he needs some nudging from Hollyn and Elsie to see what’s happening.

And then there’s the small town this story is set in: Carson Mills. It’s filled with a cast of characters that you would swear were created from your own hometown neighbors. Kate even included one curmudgeon, whose subplot runs throughout the story. And gives us a plot twist.

Falling for the Cat Guy is the best, most creative romance I’ve read in a long time.

My Rating: 5+ stars

Author Biography:

I am an author with a penchant for writing about strong, sassy ladies and the men they love (and cats!). I have a background in historic and theatrical costuming. I live in New York with my cat, Miss Toby Toebeanz, and lots and lots of books.

Picture Imperfect is my debut novel. The sequel, A Perfectly Imperfect Holiday, was released for the 2023 holiday season, followed by A Perfect Brew, a Destination Romance novella set between Picture Imperfect and A Perfectly Imperfect Holiday.

Falling for the Cat Guy is a sweet, small-town Halloween romance (with cats!).
