Title: Go Scorch Yourself (Strawberry Shifters 3)
Author: Marilyn Barr
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Book Blurb:
Bad Girl Betty is ready to start her new nursing career after her boyfriend overdoses at her feet. Moving in with her sister was supposed to be safe, but now Sluagh and vampires are chasing her instead of unpaid drug dealers and detectives. Sluagh are monsters but the Vampire King is just a bully, and Betty plans to take him down. If only her scheme didn't involve getting close to his prince…
Lucien Von Popescu, mild-mannered microbiologist and Vampire Prince wants to rock and roll all night and sleep all day. Too bad he is being blackmailed. When Lucien is ordered to secure an alliance by seducing Betty, he can't decide if it's a dream come true or his worst nightmare.
My Review:
All Betty wants is to help her sister, so she snuggles up with vampire prince Lucien and finds a love worth fighting for. When Betty moved to Strawberry to be closer to her sister, she had no idea her sister was a shifter, let alone a huge bear. Betty wants a fresh start and she's determined to make it work. There's a huge adjustment period for her but it's better than the alternative. She agrees to infiltrate the vampires, to suss out what their secret agenda is. Betty decides to start with shy, awkward Lucien, the heir to the vampires. But the more she's around him, the closer she feels to him. She's still grieving the death of her boyfriend, Evan, but she can't deny her feelings for Lucien. When a secret is revealed, Betty feels betrayed. Can Betty and Lucien overcome all their issues to find their own happy ending, or will she tell him to go scorch himself?
Go Scorch Yourself is an emotional paranormal romance I couldn't stop reading. This book picks up right where Round of Applause left off. Right from the start, I connected with Betty. She's such a wonderful character with immense trauma to work through. The fact that her trigger is when a man gets down on one knee broke my heart. Now, when she's not grieving, she's a snarky heroine to goes toe-to-toe with the king vampire. Talk about gutsy. Lucien, on the other hand, is what I would call a modern geek vampire. Nothing pleases him more than being sequestered in his lab. When both Betty and Lucien are themselves, it's easy to see why they have such a strong connection. They balance each other out and their chemistry is off the charts. Marilyn Barr is showing off her writing prowess in Go Scorch Yourself. She pulls in the reader with her descriptive narration, serious life themes, a modern romance with depth, and plenty of shifters/vampires to interact with. I had high expectations with this one and Go Scorch Yourself exceeded my anticipation. It was brilliant from start to finish, and it now firmly belongs in my yearly rereads section. If you love paranormal romance, you'll want to read Go Scorch Yourself. A beautiful, heartfelt paranormal romance that'll leave its mark on your soul. Highly recommend!

Author Biography:
Marilyn Barr currently resides in the wilds of Kentucky with her husband, son, and rescue cats. She has a diverse background containing experiences as a child prodigy turned medical school reject, published microbiologist, special education/inclusion science teacher, homeschool mother of a savant, certified spiritual/energy healer, and advocate for the autistic community. This puts her in the position to bring tales containing heroes who are regular people with different ability levels and body types, in a light where they are powerful, lovable, and appreciated.
When engaging with the real world, she is collecting characters, empty coffee cups, and unused homeschool curricula. She is a sucker (haha) for cheesy horror movies, Italian food, punk music, black cats, bad puns, and all things witchy.
