N. N. Light’s Book Heaven is celebrating its tenth anniversary. Isn’t that wonderful?
MANY CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR TENTH ANNIVERSARY!
I’d like to introduce prolific author Heather Peck.
Question 1: Where were you ten years ago in relation to your author/writer career? If you weren’t writing, what were you doing?
In 2015 I had just stood down as Chair of Cambridgeshire Community Service National Health Service (NHS) Trust and become Deputy Chair of Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust. I was also Chair of the Dog Welfare Trust, a non-executive director of the UK Food Standards Agency and Chair of the UK Home Grown Cereals Authority (HGCA) Wheat Committee. The only things I’d written for publication were a Report on the Independent Review of Dog Breeding and official codes of practice eg on the safe transport and storage of pesticides.
Question 2: Looking back on the past ten years, how has your writing grown?
I undertook the National Centre for Writing course – An Introduction to Crime Writing – in 2019. I enjoyed it very much and the feedback was very encouraging. In between volunteering as an adviser in Citizens Advice and in courts in the Witness Service, I wrote my first book in 2020 and started on a second. That first book, Secret Places, was published in February 2021 and the second, Glass Arrows, a few months later. Glass Arrows was shortlisted for the East Anglian Book Awards prize for fiction in 2021, which was a huge boost!
Question 3: What are you doing now? How many books have you published?
Since that course in 2019 I have published 14 books: 7 novels in the DCI Greg Geldard Norfolk Mysteries series which began with Secret Places; 1 standalone thriller, Milestones, which won the Page Turner Book Award 2024 for best crime novel; 3 novellas in the Geldard series, and 3 children’s books.
In addition to the awards already mentioned, my books have won 6 Firebird Book Awards
