“Dearie, ye must have patience. ‘Tis no’ a thing ye can rush.” Edna’s voice was at once calm and commanding. The midwife had that way about her.
Mirren pursed her lips and tried not to allow any tears to well under her lashes. She knew the midwife spoke the truth. But so many women who had wed after Mirren and Carrick had been blessed with children. Why was it taking them so long?
“It just seems that we should have a bairn by now. We’ve been married for nearly three years.”
The midwife nodded her head, sending her kerchief flapping against her curly, graying hair, and patted Mirren’s knee. No longer having her own mother to console her, Mirren appreciated the extra care that Edna seemed to have with her.
Mirren knew she could be a clinging lass indeed.
“Am I doing something wrong?” Mirren’s hesitant voice asked.
Carrick had been the most kind and earnest lover, as far as Mirren knew, and though he told her she was doing everything right (especially when he was panting above her, oh how she loved when he panted above her!), what if she wasn’t? What if there was something more she was supposed to do?
Edna’s low chuckle broke the quiet of the midwife’s hut. She patted Mirren’s knee again.
“I have seen how the blonde giant looks at ye, lass. I promise, ye are doing everything right.”

Her two favorite authors are Stephen King and Diana Gabaldon. And she adores all things historical romance! She is currently working on other writing curricula texts and several novels of different genres.
