My Review:
Jake left Emily once but he’s back. Can he prove to Emily his love has never wavered? Most importantly, can Jake protect Emily from the danger that’s closing in? His Return is a pulse-pounding second-chance romantic suspense. Sheila Kell is back with another outstanding installment in her HIS series. I connected with the characters right away. The narration is descriptive while infusing emotional angst throughout the story. The action blends with the suspense and romance to make this an unforgettable book.
Let’s start with the characters. Emily is a strong heroine who’s gone through her fair share of heartache. She’s been in love with Jake, her brother’s best friend, since she was a young girl. When her brother discovered them together, he kicked Jake out of their home. That was four years ago. Emily is not sure what to make of Jake’s return. She must protect her heart, right? I really loved reading Emily’s story. She’s well-written and her reactions are authentic. She’s emotional but I like that in my heroines. It’s easier to relate to her that way.
Jake is a hero among heroes. He’s made a lot of mistakes and now it’s time for him to make things right. Sheila Kell writes him with nerves of steel. Any romance reader will swoon over him. Time doesn’t heal all wounds but for Jake, he’s willing to do whatever it takes.
The romance features quite a few tropes including second chance, unrequited love, brother’s best friend and more. There’s a lot of tension and fevered emotion but it’s all worth it in the end.
Sheila Kell has another must-read on her hands. Her writing is flawless. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
