Title: IRON COP

Author: SALLY BOOTH

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Book Blurb:

Upstate New York Society wife Samantha Chadwick Thorne barely has time to process her husband’s murder and the threat to her own life—before she’s forced on the run. Dodging bullets and taking orders from an arrogant detective, who dislikes her on sight, is her version of hell on Earth. Why does she need a bodyguard, anyway? She has a secret weapon that will keep her alive—one that she can’t even reveal to the infuriating, sexy cop.

Detective Nick O’Reillly’s job is to keep the star witness—a gorgeous but snobby socialite—alive to testify against the killer, even though he sometimes feels like throttling her himself. He’s drawn to her, but the unwanted sparks she sets off are cooled by the suspicion she might be involved in her husband’s death.

The trust and attraction between them grows day by day. One problem—they have to outwit killers who are always one step ahead in order to give their love a chance.

Excerpt:

Nick pulled into a campsite outside of Amarillo. He’d headed west instead of east as previously planned, trying to put distance behind them. Anyone would be a fool to think he’d head back toward New York after what had happened thus far. His motto? “Lost in the Big T”.

Wearing his Stetson and dark glasses for camouflage, he pulled up to the office door. They were miles from the campground they’d stayed at last night.

“Oh, this looks much better.: A big smile brightened her face. “It paid to stop at that Information Center and make inquiries. We’d never have found this lovely secluded place. It’s private and nice.”

“Look. There’s a lake. Mirror smooth, too. Beautiful.”

Her happiness warmed his heart and put a grin on his face. Her eyes lit up and her beauty increased one hundred percent. His dumb heart was thudding hard in his chest.

“This is new to me. I can’t wait to get my toes in the water. It looks crystal clear.”

“I’d think you’d prefer a nice clean chlorinated pool.”

“I’ve been in the ocean, and that isn’t clean or chlorinated.”

Her chin shot up like it always did when she was being indignant. The light in her eyes faded too, which made him feel worse than the crap a duck had left on the ground near his door. His making statements about her status in life wouldn’t do much to keep her safe. Why did he say such things: Not to hurt her, that’s for sure. Liking her too much might be the problem, though he worked hard not to let his emotions get the better of him where she was concerned.

Nick tipped his head. “I stand corrected.” He hated to bust her bubble, but he added, “Don’t forget why we’re here. Forget that and trouble will sneak up from behind.”

“You worry to much. Who’s going to find us out here anyway?” Suddenly, she covered her mouth and looked away.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

What had she done? “Then why did you turn a pasty white?”

“I-I just. . . It’s nothing, really.”

“Is there something I should know?”

Before she could answer, a man stepped up to the car. “Can I help you?”

He heard a sigh of relief from Samantha. She was hiding something. He knew trouble would be attached to whatever she was keeping secret.
