N. N. Light’s Book Heaven is celebrating its tenth anniversary. Isn’t that wonderful?

YES :)

I’d like to introduce prolific romance author Kate Moore.

Question 1: Where were you ten years ago in relation to your author/writer career? If you weren’t writing, what were you doing?

Ten years ago, I left a long career teaching English literature for full-time writing. In the basement of our local library, I found a "writers meet-up" group. At first there were three of us. Then we grew to be twelve, all ages, writing in all genres. Twice a week we'd huddle, because the basement was cold, and write for an hour. Then we'd take turns sharing our work. In all we've published memoir, romance, history, thrillers, children's books, and cozy mysteries. When the pandemic hit, we learned Zoom. We're still going.

Question 2: Looking back on the past ten years, how has your writing grown?

Writing a novel is like skiing down a hill that's a bit above your skill level. It's always challenging and full of surprises. There are awkward moments and spills, as well as those moments when you're flying along. As a writer I'm better at taking the risks now. (The Raven's Lady was super risky.) I don't outline anymore, and I don't commute to work. I write longhand in blank sketchbooks until a scene or an episode comes together in my head. Before the sun comes up, I put my laptop on my lap desk, let my husband bring me a cup of coffee, and write for an hour, interrupted only by the cat at my elbow. The big snowy hill is in front of me, and off I go.

Question 3: What are you doing now? How many books have you published?

I just celebrated the launch of my twenty-second book, part of a sweet historical trilogy for Tule Publishing, set in London in 1835, after the great fire that burned the Houses of Parliament to the ground. The stories follow the rise of three of "lost boys" from an earlier series of mine. Now I'm working a trilogy about a group of gifted girls defying the odds to pursue careers in London, the first one as an early weather forecaster.
