My Review:
Katherine by AK Nevermore is the fourth book in the Maw of Mayhem big cat shifter book series. This is the book fans have been waiting for—the royal wedding! I absolutely loved the way Kat and Grim performed their nuptials. It was raw, chaotic, and a perfect crescendo to their love story.
Katherine, or Kat, has come into her own. She’s the queen of the cat shifters and a mate of equal fortitude for Grim and his beastly puma, Darke. However, there is an extra wrinkle to their twisted origin story. We learn the story of their parents and why our villain, Reaper, is obsessed with Kat. Our newlyweds have more questions after the explanations than answers…but I can’t tell you why (massive spoiler!). Let’s just say Shiv, Reaper’s diabolical son, has the same specialty as Kat and Grim. He’s fantastically evil and an equal foe for our happy bride and groom. I love this new twist and can’t wait to see where Nevermore takes it.
While it is the fourth book in the series, I feel this book could be read as a standalone. It explains the backstory beautifully and sets up the next story arcs for future books. Not that I suggest skipping books 1-3, fans of the series will love cameos by the witches, vampires, and shifters from previous installments. Chante and her family drama follows the shifters to the altar with her father providing comic relief during the more intense moments. I also loved the continuation of Triss and Deuce’s flirtation, even though it brings Deuce more pain with each book. The banter of the other shifters at Deuce’s expense is hilarious.
My favorite part of the book was the culmination of the “porcupine” joke which runs through the first three books. Darke’s obsession with giving Kit a porcupine had me in stitches. The joke’s payoff in this book is as outrageous as Darke. I cackled out loud.
Overall, I highly recommend Katherine to fans of MC Romance, Shifter Romance, or Paranormal Wedding Books.
