Title: Lead Me On
Author: M.J. Schiller
Genre: Rock romance, Contemporary romance, Romantic suspense
Book Blurb:
Getting involved with each other may require some actual conversation…
Caleb Winthrop was conversation-challenged. Especially when it came to the opposite sex.
I didn’t believe it at first when the guys told me Sophie was checking me out. A beautiful girl like her interested in the Mohawk-wearing lead guitarist for a rock band? It seemed far-fetched. But my band members kept pushing me toward her, so I gave in and made an attempt at talking to her, if only to shut them up.
Sophie Lockhart has had her heart broken before.
That’s why my attraction to Caleb was so insane. When one thought about honesty and faithfulness, Caleb Winthrop’s name is not what came to mind. Now, if the word was sexy or unbelievably hot, he would definitely be at the top of that list. But he was the ultimate bad boy…or at least he seemed to be. And that was not the type of guy I could trust with my heart. Even if it was, I’d never be able to work up the nerve to talk to him.
Can these two introverts find their way to each other? Or will each crawl back into the comfort of their protective shell on Last Chance Beach?
My Review:
Can two people who struggle with words find love without saying a word? This is such a touching love story. From the moment I started reading, I fell in love with Caleb and Sophie. Their awkwardness is so adorable, and it gets even better when they bond over books. I love reading romances that surprise me and Lead Me On is fresh, romantic, and real. I read it in one day.
Let’s start with the characters. Caleb is a tongue-tied rockstar with a mohawk. Like he says in the first chapter, he’s not who he appears to be. I love the complexity of his personality. He wears a mohawk, is a rockstar, yet is a shy guy who loves books. He’s also a sweet man with a big heart. Sophie is also an introvert and works at her parents’ bookstore. She’s shy too who’s dealing with some personal issues. Her fiancé left her at the altar. She doesn’t think she deserves love. Caleb is out to prove her wrong.
The descriptive narration is immersive, emotional, and thrusts the reader into the story. There’s a lot of details pertaining to the setting and being a rockstar. I loved it because it made the story come alive.
The romance is instant attraction, rockstar romance with a beachy vibe thrown in. M.J. Schiller writes romance that’s realistic, swoony, and very satisfying. The romantic tension is palpable yet not over the top. I fell in love right along with Caleb and Sophie.
Lead Me On is one of those great romances I’ll be happy to read over and over again. Brilliant from start to finish.
