N. N. Light’s Book Heaven is celebrating its tenth anniversary. Isn’t that wonderful?
I’d like to introduce script guru and prolific author Marla White.
Question 1: Where were you ten years ago in relation to your author/writer career? If you weren’t writing, what were you doing?
Ten years ago I was working a full-time job as a television development executive guiding numerous comedy and drama ideas to (hopefully) to become scripts at a network. I struggled finishing my first mystery, “Cause for Elimination”, because there never seemed to be enough time to write. Then I met the great Janet Evanovich while we were developing her books as a series. She explained she gets up at five in the morning to write. There was my answer; successful writers make the time.
Question 2: Looking back on the past ten years, how has your writing grown?
With the help of my first editor at Wild Rose Press, I’ve learned so much about simplifying my stories and limiting the number of POVs! I’ve discovered words I overuse (enough up, just, and look already!), but I’ve also learned to let that be a second draft problem. I’ve branched out into 2 other genres which may be crazy but I’ve enjoyed adopting different voices and tones.
Question 3: What are you doing now? How many books have you published?
At the moment, I’m writing two books at once – the second Pine Cove book and the fourth in the LA Quakes hockey romance series I’m co-writing with the talented CJ Bahr under the name Alisa Jean. I’ve published two full mysteries and two novellas with Wild Rose Press, and self-published two contemporary fantasies with the third coming out in April. As Alisa Jean, we’ve published the first of the Quakes series in January of 2025 and have the next two available now for pre-order.

Author Biography:
Marla White is an award-winning novelist who prefers killing people who annoy her on paper rather than in real life. Her first full-length mystery novel, “Cause for Elimination,” placed in several contests including Killer Nashville, The RONE Awards, The Reader’s Favorite, and finishing second in the Orange County Romance Writers for Romantic Suspense. Originally from Oklahoma, she lived in a lot of other states before settling down in Los Angeles to work in the television industry. She currently teaches at UCLA Extension and gives seminars about the art of script coverage. When she’s not working on the next book, she’s hiking, cheering on the LA Kings, or discovering new craft cocktails (to, you know, drown her sorrows over the Kings).
