He ticks every one of her “never again” boxes…
Jo Weaver loves her job as a boat mechanic for her family’s marina in River’s Edge, Indiana. But when she’s pulled away from her high school reunion with her sisters to fix a stranded yacht, she can’t restrain her irritation. Jo doesn’t like wealthy men who think they can have whatever they want, and she has no intention of falling for rich and charming again.
Born into the international Briggs Hotels empire, Alex Briggs has never felt comfortable with his life of privilege. Abandoning his family’s business to pursue medical research, he’s far more at home in his lab. When the yacht he restored himself breaks down on the way to an important conference, Alex begrudgingly goes in search of a boat mechanic and falls, literally, into Jo Weaver’s arms. The fireworks he feels are impossible to ignore.
Jo does her best to keep Alex in the business zone, but he keeps slipping into something more. Can she trust her fragile heart, especially when Alex and his life-altering research are so far from River’s Edge?
My Review:
In a battle between her head and her heart, will Jo choose love? I always look forward to Nan’s books. She writes heartfelt small-town romance that harkens me back to classic contemporary romance. Meet Me in River’s Edge is a small town romance I read in one day. The storyline and characters hooked me from the very first page. The romance is slow-burn with a bit of enemies-to-lovers and opposites attract thrown in. I truly loved this book.
Let’s start with the characters. Jo is a female boat mechanic. She’s got a tough exterior but inside she’s all squishy. She despises the rich and entitled. When she meets Alex, she makes assumptions, and it gets her into trouble. Sure, Alex comes from a wealthy family but he’s making a name for himself in medical research. He works hard. He’s not that different from Jo. These characters have been hurt before and deserve real love. I connected with both characters on so many levels. Their emotions, worries, and fears make this book impossible to put down.
The narration is equal parts emotion and descriptive. Every scene is described in lush detail. While reading, I transported to this small town. Every emotion, every detail is poignantly described.
The romance is slow-burn with quite a bit of angst. Normally, I don’t care for that, but Nan Reinhardt balances the angst with humorous dialogue and secondary characters. There’s plenty of push and pull but it made me yearn for when they get together. I fell in love along with Jo and Alex.
I know I say this quite often, but I truly enjoyed reading Meet Me in River’s Edge. An emotional roller coaster with a satisfying ending. What more needs to be said?
