Excerpt:

He rocked back on his heels, tenting his fingers. "It's possible — once we survive Christmas with our families and the parading my families heritage and vardo down the center of town in the Parade of Lights. You ready for our parents and your family to invade our little piece of heaven?"

"I think so. I've already decorated the cottage with lights, baubles, and bows I bought in town. Just need to find a small Christmas tree. What about you? Your cabin will be filled to bursting with all those people. I can make room for Hope, Justin and Charity at the cottage."

He laughed. "I noticed. With all those lights, you're lucky the aircraft don't mistake it for a landing strip. My parents are coming for the Parade of Lights and tree lighting festivities and will be staying with friends. So I've plenty of room for your sister, husband and niece."

"Oookay. Not sure putting Zac and Charity under the same roof is a good idea."

"It's be a good test for him. May help with your decision. Besides your parents will be there to referee."

She paused and frowned. "S'pose so. We need to decorate your cabin too."

"I was thinking about having a cabin decorating party. You know singing Christmas carols around the tree after we finish decorating it and the cabin. Mugs of hot chocolate, hot apple cider, an informal dinner maybe invite Jim and Penny, Zac can bring his friend, then you and me? It's been a long time…" He appeared lost in thought.

She waited a couple beats and grinned. "The loan spruce tree out front of the cabin is begging for bright multi-colored lights." She winked at him wiggling her fingers. "I could arrange for that to happen."

"Frivolously use of magic? Not a good example for Zak."

"I beg to differ with you, sir. It's for everyone to enjoy. Your family, my family and by the time I'm done, the whole town will be able to see it. I mean enjoy it." She snickered.

After spending the night in the peace and quiet of cottage, bright and early Christmas morning he and Mercy slipped in the back door. Women's cheerful voice echoed though the cabin along with the aroma of turkey and pumpkin pies baking. They followed the sound to the kitchen passing the dining table set for ten. "Hey Penny and Jim will be joining us for Christmas dinner. Sorry I forgot to tell you." He paused. "Jim is family and I have a feeling Penny will be soon."

"I knew it." Mercy grinned.

Blair grabbed two additional plate settings.

When they all set down to dinner, he couldn't help be notice the sad expressions his parents were trying hard to hid. After dinner Mercy chased everyone out of the dinning room. "I got this."

"I'll help with the kitchen." Blair offered with a wink to her daughter.

"Okay. Pie and coffee in a few." the room was cleared.

Blair returned from the kitchen a few minutes later. "All done. The pie is cut and on plates. Coffee is nearly ready and the cups are beside the coffee maker. Everyone can serve themselves." She announced.
