Excerpt:
The full moon shone brightly through the lace curtains washing everything in a silvery mist. She jumped up and pushed aside the drape. No ghost here. Then she gazed out the window. Enchanted, eh? Her sister's words floated through her mind. "Don't get into trouble."
It was a beautiful summer evening lit by a full moon. What harm could come from simply popping over to Mystic Maples, digging my toes into the earth and see if there is any truth to the rumors? She shrugged. Sis wouldn't have told me about it, if she hadn't thought it worth investigating. Right?
She toed off her shoes, pulled off her socks and straightened. With a snap of her fingers she left the room without a sound and landed smack dab at the edge of the maple trees. Glancing around, she could see the house in the distance and the outline of the sign. "Good, I'm in the right place." Wandering farther in among the trees, the dirt beneath her feet was cool. Wiggling her toes deeper into the earth, she felt the warmth of the day and something else—a connection.
Several trees had a slight glow to them, then it was gone. Am I imagining…She raised her arms out from her sides and turned her face to the starlit sky letting the magic surge through her. It had been almost a year since magic of any kind called to her. It felt so good, she was lost in the moment.
Suddenly a male voice broke through her revelry. "What are you doing here?"
Her heart thundered in her chest. She hadn't heard a sound. Yet, there he was standing not three feet from her, hands on hips, and glaring at her. The aura around him flashed red. Not good. Saving grace at the moment was the calm Caribbean ocean blue simmering below the rage red—what's this—a spark of magic? Where'd that come from? He's no witch or… Once again her insatiable curiosity over whelmed her good sense.
He reached out. It all happened like slow motion, he grabbed her arm pulling her out of her thoughts. Reflex action on her part caused a jolt of magic spark to snap from her palm. A direct hit to his solarplexis. Shit. Uh-oh—there goes the offer of his cottage. "I’m so sorry," she blurted.
Doubling over he gasped for air. She had to admire him. He stayed on his feet.
Adrenalin surged through her veins, the fight or flight response alive and well. A final glance at him to make sure he was recovering, then she snapped her fingers and disappeared.

With her shoulders squared and a bounce in her step, she headed for Mystic Maples. Standing at the bottom of the stairs leading up to the wrap-around, partially screened in porch, the two-story log cabin looked as formidable as its owner seemed at this moment. At the front door, her hand raised to knock, she lost her nerve and took three steps back, turned on her heel preparing to sprint down the steps when a dog barked, and the door whooshed open.
Oh, no—breathe, Mercy, just breathe. “Good mmorning Mr. Silvanus.” She stammered. She’d forgotten his last name—wait—did she know his last name?
Eyes widened in surprise, he quickly schooled his features into a pleasant expression before commanding Raga to stay with a hand signal. “Good morning. Can I help you?” A beguiling smile curved the corners of his mouth and his eyebrow winged up. “Weren’t you my late-night visitor?” His eyes twinkled with mischief before he sent her a quick wink.
Wow, well trained dog. Feeling more at ease, but she could tell he wasn’t going to let her off easy—if at all. “Yes, I guess I was. I’m sorry to have trespassed on your property. I meant no harm.” She blew out a breath. “I’m staying at the Deerbourne Inn. But my reservations got mixed up and instead of being for six months as planned, the reservation was for two weeks. Then Nate talked to you and indicated you had a cottage to rent?”
He stared at her, the calm, blue aura was back. “And your name is?”

November is a time to be thankful. What are you most thankful for this year?
My husband’s retirement enabling us to go on a three-month RV adventure across the US through the south-east and all the way up the eastern seaboard to Bar Harbor Maine that we had planned for 8-10 years. (never had the time until he retired.) We just returned this month and we had a fabulous time! The weather was perfect, for the most part, the planned stops worked out wonderful, and three of the KOA campgrounds we stopped at had Halloween Parties while we were there. Halloween is my favorite time of year and holiday.
