Bookstore owner, Opaline Lunn, discovers she is a witch and Detective Eamon Dayan has fallen in love with her. Together they unearth The Ancient One, who is trying to kill her and her two sisters she didn’t know she had.

Excerpt:

Opaline heard him chuckle and wondered if he had

offered his sister’s help without her knowledge. She

walked over to the microphone and tapped it to get every

one’s attention. “Hello again. Or should I say good night?

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but we only have

the room until eleven o’clock. So, if I can have everyone

start to move out, that would be great. The hotel has a bar

and grill that is open until one o’clock if you want to

 continue your date in there.”

The crowd moaned, but everyone started to exit. Over

all, they looked happy as they did.

About twenty minutes later, Paula, Eamon, and herself

were left, plus a few of the hotel staff.

 “That went smoothly,” Paula said.

“It sure did. Thanks for the help. All that is left to do is

pack up my stuff and pay the hotel,” Opaline stated.

“Great. Sounds like I’m free to go, then.” Paula looked

at Eamon, who nodded. “I’m going to the bar and grill.

Scott, one of my dates, is waiting for me.”

“Text me when you leave and when you get home.

And I don’t want you going home with anyone,” Eamon

 said.

“Come on. You know I won’t.” Paula smiled sweetly.

Opaline laughed at seeing Paula’s "fingers crossed

 behind her back.

“Show me your hands, sis,” Eamon demanded.

Paula turned to reveal her hands, which still had her

 fingers crossed.

“I’m serious. No overnights ’til I can check the guy

 out.”

Paula’s smile disappeared. “Okay, bro, but that goes for

you too.” She waved at them as she strutted out of the

 ballroom.

“I’m sorry, Opaline. I’m just very protective.”

“I don’t have a problem with that. And was that an

invite for me to spend the night at your house?”

Her teasing reply provoked a shocked look from

Eamon, but only for an instant before a sparkle lit up his

 blue eyes.

“You’re as bad as my sister, Ms. Lunn.”

“Should I take that as a compliment?” His use of her

full name had her wondering if she had overstepped, and

she berated herself for doing so.

 “You’ll have to ask her.”

Opaline laughed, thankful it appeared she hadn’t been

too presumptuous. Their conversation took on a new

direction to how the event had turned out. Side by side,

they walked to the hotel’s registration desk.

Once she paid the bill, she turned to Eamon. “Thank

you for helping with cleaning up the room and for the two

 great dates.”

“You’re welcome. And it’s me who should thank you.

Can I walk you to your car?”

His earlier comment about being protective came back

to her. She found his offer gracious and wondered if he

was this way with all the women he dated.

“That would be great. But I don’t have a car. I drive an

 SUV.”

“Interesting. I took you for a sports car type of

 woman.”

He retrieved a couple of her bags from the floor. She

shook her head as they walked to her blue Chevy Tahoe,

feeling as if they had done this a hundred times. “Well,

 this is my baby.”

Pressing her key fob, the doors unlocked. Eamon put

her bags into the back seat. She closed the door and

turned. Eamon was right next to her.

“Opaline, I’ve wanted to kiss you all night. May I?”

 What a gentleman.

His presence was soothing and sensual at the same

time. She nodded and emptied the space between them.

He placed his hands on her arms, drawing her closer, and

lowered his head. Her senses were out of control. She

closed her eyes, waiting for his lips to cover hers.

She felt his breath on her lips first, then his mouth.

Author Biography:

Sonja Gunter

I was born and raised in the cold and beautiful Minnesota, but I escaped to Illinois for seventeen years to raise my two boys, and now I call Florida home. My husband Andy, who’s always been my hero, has put up with my late night computer typing and endless stacks of papers with my stories on them. We have one furry friend as family: Chip, a sixteen year old ragdoll cat.

Life has been full of ups and downs, but I’ve made it through the hard times. I love to travel and go to Disney World to trade pins.  I’ve been a bowler for many years, and you can catch me writing my next novel at the lanes.

I encourage you to check out my web site, www.sonjagunter.com for more info and don’t be surprised if I let my Norwegian heritage come through in my stories.
