5 stars for Pirogue Wipe Out: The Big Uneasy 7 by @paulinebjones #romanticmystery #bookreview

Title: Pirogue Wipe Out: The Big Uneasy 7

Author: Pauline Baird Jones

Genre: Romantic Suspense, Romantic Mystery

Book Blurb:

No-nonsense Coast Guard agent, Dan Baker finds himself going where he doesn’t want to go (the swamp) and feeling what he never thought he’d feel (in love or in like). He really hopes the mysterious Gemma isn’t the murderer because he doesn’t want or need her in his life.

Gemma Bailey’s “get away from it all” summer on the charter boat Reel Escape, is not turning out like she’d hoped. There is a dubious lawyer, a sinister mob figure, and some murders. Was it the Rougarou? It is a pity the way too attractive Dan Baker thinks she’s the murderer.

Can they untwist the tangled ties, clear Gemma and the Rougarou, and ride off into the sunset on Dan’s Triumph?

Don’t miss out on this latest installment in the Big Uneasy series!

My Review:

A mutilated body leads Coast Guard agent Dan Baker on a wild chase through the swamps in search of a mythical creature. New Orleans is known for many things, but Dan Baker doesn’t want any part of his illustrious family. He left for a reason, mainly his family, but now he’s back. He hasn’t told his family he’s returned, but he knows he should. He’s happy in his job at the coast guard. He's investigating a murder when he runs into Gemma Bailey. She’s intriguing and makes him feel things he’s never felt. Fingers crossed she’s not the murderer because that would be bad. With more dead bodies, rumors fly it’s the mythical creature Rougarou. It’ll be up to Dan to clear Gemma’s name and catch the real killer before it’s too late.

Pirogue Wipe Out is a romantic mystery I couldn’t put down. While this is part of a bestselling series, it can be read as a standalone. In this installment, we meet one of the Baker sons. He’s different from the rest of his family yet he has a mysterious side to him. I connected with him immediately. He’s quite the underwhelming hero yet that is one of the reasons why I loved reading this book. Understated is a more apt description. Gemma is unassuming too but for different reasons. The attraction between these two is immediate yet there is a slow-burn vibe to their romance. I found it refreshing. The descriptive narration was very detailed and allowed me to easily plunge into the story. The suspense/mystery part feasted on my imagination. I whipped through the pages late into the night because I had to know what happened next. The tempo of the plot is evenly paced. The dialogue is smart, funny, and allows the reader to become part of the story. Pirogue Wipe Out is a terrific read and an excellent addition to this bestselling series. Go ahead and treat yourself to Pirogue Wipe Out. Highly recommend!
