Title: Redemption in Mariposa Beach
Author: Teresa Michael
Genre: Cozy Mystery
Book Blurb:
Welcome back to Mariposa Beach for the fourth book in the Mariposa Café Mystery Series, where it’s all about fun Florida mysteries featuring fearless, female sleuths.
It appears that dead bodies continue to be following Libby Marshall all through the otherwise quiet little beach town of Mariposa Beach, Florida. And this 4th of July is no exception. The problem is that the recently deceased was someone who had very important information for Libby regarding the man who had kidnapped her not so long ago – Max Holden.
The question really is who knows what about Max … and that includes how much Libby’s boyfriend, Detective Jack Seiler, knows too. And what does Max’s status have to do with the trafficking ring that seems to be attempting to get back to business as usual?
The Mariposa Café Mysteries are Friends meets Miami Vice.
My Review:
It’s the 4th of July yet there’s more than fireworks for Libby as another dead body shows up. Libby is still recovering from when Max Holden kidnapped her. Questions swirl around her but she puts her thoughts on the backburner to celebrate the 4th of July. That is, until a dead body is discovered. The murdered man supposedly had vital information for her about Max. Libby dons her sleuthing cap and starts digging. Where is Max? Has he returned? Is he behind the trafficking ring that’s resurfacing? The more she digs, the more danger she’s in. It appears someone is out for revenge and has set its sights on Libby. Can she stay alive long enough to bring the murderer to justice?
Redemption in Mariposa Beach is an addictive cozy mystery I thoroughly enjoyed. From the very beginning, I connected with Libby. She’s a very likable character with a chip on her shoulder and the keen ability to sniff out criminals and wrongdoers. The mystery unfolds naturally with a complex plot, a full cast of characters, plus clues scattered throughout so the reader gets caught up in the story. While I’d probably put the genre as cozy crime rather than cozy mystery due to the storyline, it’s an excellent mystery. The setting is in sunny Florida, and I loved interacting with the townsfolk. The action is perfectly described and allowed me to become a part of the story. I’m a huge mystery reader and this is my first book by this author. I was impressed by the subtlety of the writing and the arc of the mystery. Immersive writing, a sunny locale, and a female amateur detective on the case, Redemption in Mariposa Beach is your next binge-read. Any cozy reader will love Redemption in Mariposa Beach. Highly recommend!
