My Review:
Elizabeth is a time traveler who’s landed in the 14th century, but her fairytale comes crashing down when her father sends a bounty hunter to bring her home. Rise Like a Phoenix is a teen time-travel adventure not to be missed. There’s so much to love about this book. It has a beautiful fairytale setting set in the 14th century. There’s intricate world-building which transports you. The characters are engaging and bring the story to life. There are even twists and turns which had me reading at a frantic pace. Hands down, Rise Like a Phoenix is an unforgettable read.
Let’s start with the world-building. The setting is 14th century Paris. Ooh lah lah, the author creates her version of medieval Paris rich in detail and historical fact. You get to see medieval life and surroundings through Elizabeth’s eyes. Tammy Lowe does a fantastic job with the world-building. It made for such an enjoyable reading experience.
The characters are addictive to read, especially Elizabeth. She’s a complex young woman who’s with the young man she adores. She also knows there’s danger lurking, so she has to be on guard. Elizabeth is very relatable and acts like a teen. Her fear about the possibility of being grounded and not being able to time travel anymore is very realistic. I connected with her right away. The rest of the characters add depth, tension, and intrigue to the story.
Tammy Lowe has penned another time travel gem. Her writing prowess grows with each book. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Author Biography:
An adventurer at heart, Tammy has explored ruins in Rome, Pompeii, and Istanbul (Constantinople) with historians and archaeologists.
She’s slept in the tower of a 15th century castle in Scotland, climbed down the cramped tunnels of Egyptian pyramids, scaled the Sydney Harbour Bridge, sailed on a tiny raft down the Yulong River in rural China, dined at a Bedouin camp in the Arabian Desert, and escaped from head-hunters in the South Pacific.
I suppose one could say her own childhood wish of time traveling adventures came true…in a roundabout way.
