N. N. Light’s Book Heaven is celebrating its tenth anniversary. Isn’t that wonderful?
I’d like to introduce you to prolific romance author Ruth A. Casie.
Question 1: Where were you ten years ago in relation to your author/writer career? If you weren’t writing, what were you doing?
Ten years ago, I had three historical romance novels, and one historical romance novella published, and I was at a crossroads, debating whether to branch out into contemporary romance. While I love reading across genres, historical stories have always been my true passion, and I ultimately decided to stay within that world. It was about that time that I retired from my career at JPMorgan to focus entirely on writing, dedicating myself fully to crafting romances that transport readers to another time. It was both exhilarating and a little daunting, but looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing.
Question 2: Looking back on the past ten years, how has your writing grown?
Looking back over the past ten years, my writing has grown in so many ways. I’ve deepened my understanding of character development, emotional layering, and historical world-building, allowing me to craft more immersive and compelling stories. My ability to balance romance with intrigue has strengthened, keeping readers engaged with both heart-stopping adventure and heartfelt love stories.
Beyond craft, I’ve gained the confidence to take creative risks, explore new storytelling techniques, and push myself with each book. The friendships I’ve built with fellow authors have been invaluable, providing encouragement, inspiration, and a shared love of the genre. Most of all, writing has given me the freedom to do what I love every day, bringing history to life through characters who fight for love and their happily ever afters.
Question 3: What are you doing now? How many books have you published?
Right now, I’m diving deep into my latest series, Barrington’s Brigade, a six-book Regency romance series that follows six retired officers, led by Lord Barrington, as they trade battlefield strategies for uncovering intrigue, confronting a secret society, and, of course, falling in love. This series spins off from The Ladies of Sommer-by-the-Sea, giving one of its standout characters his own set of challenges, both in duty and in romance.
So far, I’ve published 41 books across six series, and the adventure continues with A Marriage for the Marquess, the first book in Barrington’s Brigade. This Regency romance blends a marriage of convenience with high-stakes intrigue. Ewan, the Marquess of Glenraven, must wed before his 30th birthday to secure his inheritance, while Lady Juliet Hayward faces financial ruin due to her late brother’s debts. Their practical arrangement quickly turns complicated when deception, danger, and undeniable attraction enter the mix. And the journey doesn’t stop there, A Dilemma for the Duke, Book 2 in the series, is set to release in mid-April 2025.
In addition to Barrington’s Brigade, I’m working on my third book for The Lyon’s Den connected world, where romance meets high-stakes matchmaking at one of London’s most notorious gambling dens. And because I can’t resist a new challenge, I’m already thinking ahead to my next series, one that will bring fresh characters, compelling intrigue, and, of course, unforgettable love stories.
With more books in the works, I’m excited to continue bringing historical romance to life, filled with adventure, strong heroines, and the kind of love that defies the odds.
