Excerpt:
Sarah crossed the main road of town between the sheriff’s office and the saloon. Nothing about Castle Rock had changed in the two years she’d been away. Everything had changed about her.
Once her best friend met and married her new husband, Sarah felt left out of things. Days spent in Audrey’s presence, even if only to keep her company while she worked, were lost.
And, like the petulant child her Aunt Edna had always dubbed her, Sarah had done what she does best, she’d turned tail and run. Under the guise of making a name for herself as an artist, she’d boarded the southbound train for San Francisco and never looked back So much for her big dreams. Nothing turned out the way she’d imagined. And now this... her mother’s illness has brought her back far sooner than she planned, or wanted.
Pulling in a deep breath, she stopped in front of the beautiful new brick home belonging to the happy couple, and lifted the brass knocker, letting it fall into place with a loud clang.
It was a moment or two before the door opened. But, then, there she was... beautiful as always... Audrey Pearl MacIntosh Davies. Wife, soon-to-be mother, best selling novelist. Everything Sarah wasn’t.
“We’re so happy you’ve come home, Sarah,” Audrey told her, ushering her across the threshold and forward to the welcoming parlor.
Reluctantly, Sarah accepted her good friend’s offered hug, despite the huge bulge of Audrey’s impending babe. “I’m only here because of my mother. I intend to return to San Francisco as soon as she’s well.
“Of course, you do. Your career is important to you, as mine is to me.”
Sarah shifted uncomfortably from one foot to the other, wanting more than anything to tell Audrey the truth. Instead, she asked, “How are you feeling? You must be getting close.”
“Two more weeks, maybe three.”
“It must be exciting being you,” Sarah snarked. “A handsome doctor husband, a new home, a baby on the way. Not to mention your writing.”
“Oh, Sarah, sweetheart. I’m no different now than I was two years ago before I married.” Patting her belly, Audrey conceded, “Okay, maybe a bit different. But look at you... an artist, and living in San Francisco.”
“Yeah... it’s great.”
“I promise you, once this baby is born and grown up enough to travel, Noah and I will come to one of your gallery showings.”
“It’s not necessary,” Sarah mumbled. “Noah’s busy with his patients, and you’ll have your hands full with the little one.”
She hated lying, especially to her childhood friend. Yet, to admit she was a complete failure was more than Sarah could bear. At least until hiding the truth was no longer an option.

What makes your featured book a must-read?
Sarah (Christmas Quilt Brides) is a sequel to last year’s book, Audrey. I love sequels, and think that the holiday is a perfect time of year to set one. My heroine is a bit unconventional. Yet, with the love of friends, family, and maybe someone new, she’ll learn just what the fictitious Dorothy did... there’s truly no place like home.
To celebrate Sarah’s upcoming release, I’m putting Audrey on sale for 99 cents during N.N. Light’s Promotion.
