Title: Sea Glass and Fireflies

Author: Kate Ellington

Genre: Historical Romance

Book Blurb:

Elsie Hayward moves into her uncle's seaside estate on what should have been her wedding day. All she wants is peace and quiet, and to escape the guilt that's haunted her since her betrothed was lost at sea.

Any hope of tranquility is dashed, however, when Charles Rockingham arrives in town. A lifetime ago they'd been best friends and almost more. If there's one person she can't hide her feelings from, it's him.

Charles hasn't received a letter from Elsie in over a year. He returns home hoping to recapture the deep bond they once shared, but shadows of the past stand between them.

One last secret must be revealed before they can find their way back to each other.

My Review:

Someone sabotaged their love but now they’re given a second chance. An unforgettable read awaits you. Sea Glass and Fireflies is an emotional historical romance I thoroughly enjoyed. Through descriptive narration, character development, sweet romantic plot, this book captures a reader’s imagination. Like sea glass beaten smooth by the waves, this couple goes through a lot before arriving in each other’s arms.

It all starts with the characters. From the first page, I connected with poor Elsie. She’s grieving the loss of her betrothed, Gabriel. She’s distraught and in need of healing. She spends time with her uncle and her childhood friend, Charles. Elsie learns so much about herself and Charles and even Gabriel. My heart went out to Elsie as she navigates the truth from the lies. The cast of characters is such fun to interact with.

The writing is what matters most, though. Kate Ellington weaves a story filled emotion, tension, and love. Her attention to detail creates a world easy to transport into. Her characters are well-written and leap from the page. I found myself caught up in the romance so much so, I stayed up late reading.

The romance is friends-to-lovers sweet romance. It’s also very slow-burn which fit perfectly for the time period. The push and pull between Elsie and Charles had me whipping through the pages.

Looking for an emotional historical romance you can’t put down? Pick up Sea Glass and Fireflies. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Author Biography:

Kate Ellington grew up in a woodsy New England town not far from the coast. She read her first historical romance at age eleven when a teacher challenged her to find a book in the library written by an author she’d never heard of. Thus began a life-long love of love stories.

After graduating from college with an art degree she settled in the Pacific Northwest, where she currently resides with her family.

Kate wrote her first romance when she was sixteen, then set her pen down for years until another story floated into her head out of the clear blue sky. She jotted it down, just for fun, but soon it took on a life of its own.
