Title: Spirit in Tow (The Marni Legend Series)
Author: Terry Segan
Genre: Paranormal Mystery
Book Blurb:
Marni Legend is about to publish her thirteenth novel. Gus Zuckerman has been hanging around since his death in nineteen-ninety-five. With her deadline looming and her recently deceased mother refusing to move on, can Marni dispatch both spirits and still have time for romance?
Armed with sarcasm and a warped sense of humor, her innate ability to stumble into awkward situations lands Marni in the midst of a car theft ring. As her circle of friends becomes populated with felons and possible murderers, the lines blur around whom she can trust.
Juggling a hot new beau with one hand and rekindling an old flame with the other, she may need to put on the brakes with one. Should she pick the probable criminal who may know Gus’s fate or play it safe with the sweetheart from her past? She’ll need more than her special abilities and quick wit to navigate the twists and turns of this paranormal mystery.
My Review:
Helping spirits is what Marni does but this time, she’s in over her head and doesn’t know who to trust. On the way to her mother’s funeral, Marni meets Gus. He’s been dead since the 90s but that doesn’t stop him from talking to Marni. See, besides being an author, she has a special gift of seeing and talking to dead people. *cue suspenseful music* It appears Gus needs her help to find out who killed him. Great. Now, she’s following a tow truck driver’s ghost into dark, even dangerous, circumstances she doesn’t even know she can flirt her way out of. Along the way, she meets handsome Jake (Gus’ brother) who asks her out. Gus wants her to find his killer but she’s not sure she wants to know. After all, she could be dating Gus’ killer. No woman wants to know that do they? Can Marni help Gus, please her mum’s spirit, and finish her latest book?
Spirit in Tow is a fun, flirty, paranormal mystery I thoroughly enjoyed. With razor-sharp wit, tongue-in-cheek humor, a cast of zany characters (both alive and dead), and a mystery to solve, Spirit in Tow ticks all of the boxes. From the first page, I connected with Marni. She’s a hoot and a half and I laughed at her hilarious dialogue. She’s also got sass which I adored. The paranormal scenes were fun and inventive. Terry Segan takes her world-building seriously and her hard work shows in the plot. Take away the humorous dialogue and you have a detailed paranormal mystery. The humor is added to lighten things up. There’s a bit of romance, too, which added another layer to the overall story. Expertly written, Spirit in Tow is what mystery lovers crave. If you love paranormal mysteries, pick up Spirit in Tow. If you love humorous mysteries, you’ll want to read Spirit in Tow. Fans of Janet Evanovich will adore Spirit in Tow. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. Highly recommend!
