My Review:
An afternoon tea for a group of British authors at an inn rumored to be haunted…what could possibly go wrong? Murder. Is it the result of a ghost of human? Page and Betsy are back for another cozy mystery, and I’m delighted. With equal portions of humor, mystery, and baking, Teatime Trouble is as sweet as Betsy’s delicious baked treats. The characters are unforgettable with a dash of quirky. The dialogue is whip smart and hilarious. So, don your sleuthing cap and join in the fun.
Let’s start with the characters. This book is fabulous entertainment thanks to two things: Page and Betsy. Their banter over anything and everything had me hooked. I couldn’t get enough of these two ladies. Beyond the banter, they make a great detective duo. Each woman has special skills that help unravel the mystery and the culprit. The rest of the cast is well-written and relatable.
The mystery subplot is brilliantly written with a couple of fun twists I didn’t expect. Tonya Penrose writes with a comedic flair but if you take the comedy out, you’re left with a serious mystery equal to Agatha Christie. I can’t overstate how impressive the writing is.
If you’re a cozy mystery read like me and like a strong dash of humor in your cozies, Teatime Trouble will make you laugh out loud. I loved every minute of it and can’t wait to read more with Page and Betsy.
