Title: The Forgotten Heiress

Author: Alanna Lucas

Genre: Historical Romance, Regency Romance

Book Blurb:

Forced to Marry the Man She Danced with Only Once! Miss Arabella Gledhill’s lonely upbringing has left her timid and ill-prepared to shine during her first season. But at four and twenty, her scheming aunt and uncle want her off their hands, pressing her to accept the first marriage proposal proffered. It’s not the way Arabella dreamed it—what chance has she of finding a good, kind man who’ll offer her heart’s desire? Liam, Lord Kenwreck, has grown weary of his life of licentiousness, although he’s in no rush to wear the parson’s noose, despite the efforts of his mother and sister to find him a suitable match. So how is that, by the end of the season’s first ball, he’s kissed Miss Gledhill in front the ton and now they’re to wed? This hasty union is not what Liam imagined, especially when he vowed never to bring dishonour on his family like his cruel blackguard of a father. But married he must be, to this beautiful bride Town gossips have branded the Forgotten Heiress. Who has no experience of the world, let alone a man of the world such as he…

My Review:

Orphan Arabella Gledhill, raised in seclusion by her grandmother, is now in the care of her aunt and uncle after her grandmother’s passing. Even though she’s twenty-four, this is her first season in London. Her uncle is determined to marry her off quickly. At her first ball, Arabella meets handsome Liam, Lord Kenwreck, and they dance. Later, apparently intoxicated, Liam kisses her with passion in front of half the ton who are in attendance. Forced to marry to avoid a scandal, Arabella finds being married to Liam troubling and rife with pitfalls. Can these two find passion and love or will this be a cold marriage of scandal?

The Forgotten Heiress is a regency romance unlike any I’ve read before. Alanna Lucas takes on some serious topics in this romance and if there wasn’t a HEA, it would’ve been a cautionary tale. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, even the sad parts. Well-written, the conflicts and misunderstandings Arabella and Liam face propel the plot. I did find the realistic nature of their relationship a little heavy at times but added to the depth of the story. Historically accurate, The Forgotten Heiress is a must-read for Regency fans.

My Rating: 5 stars
