Title: The Kristmas Project

Author: Mary Martinez

Genre: Wholesome Holiday Romance

Book Blurb:

Kristmas Noel Holly was born in December. Her parents hated everything about the season, so why had they named her after Christmas? Kris’s childhood memories were not filled with peace and joy, more of dread. She’s ecstatic when an invitation arrives to a prestigious conference in Germany for the first week of December. Her salvation to avoid the festivities.

Nicholas Joseph Holladay loves the season, every decorated tree, carol, and Hallmark movie. Nick’s idea of a perfect Christmas for his daughter doesn’t include a business trip. He loves his job ten months out of the year, so he’ll accompany Kris. He hopes to remedy Kris’s holiday workaholic tendencies by rekindling the special magic of the season for her. He plans to take Kris to the famous holiday markets and show her how much she misses while working.

Will his plan succeed, or will he ruin their working relationship?

My Review:

Get ready! This story is carved out of sweet frosting and gingerbread.

First the names: Kristmas Noel Holly and Nicholas Joseph Holladay. Mix in Nick’s daughter named Angel who lives up to her name. What could be the problem? Nick and Angel need to find a way to have Kristmas live up to her name.

Kristmas comes from a less than happy childhood where Christmas was never the happiest time of the year. Now a successful business owner, she’s a workaholic and prefers to ignore everything about her upbringing. But her right-hand guy, Nicholas, has had the opposite experience in his family life. The Christmas season is full of tradition and love.

When Kristmas tells him he’s slated for a business trip with her to Germany during the holiday season, he makes the best of it by including his daughter and niece on the trip. Kristmas isn’t a grinch, so she extends some latitude in this work trip. What happens to her is the magic of the season.

I think the book could’ve done without the subplot about one of her employees. It felt like an add-on and not part of the main story. Overall, the dialogue is a touch stiff. But her reconciling, almost, with her mother and meeting the brother and sister she didn’t know she had was a good addition to a happily-ever-after.

The last few paragraphs of the last chapter had my eyes misting over. If you’re looking for a super sweet Hallmark-type story, you’ll love The Kristmas Project.
