Genre: Sweet Paranormal Romance

Book Blurb:

When Megan Johnson inherits an old cottage in the Welsh countryside, she seizes the opportunity to cut ties with her past life, after a broken romance. Her nearest neighbour, a horse trainer, is also something of an enigma. Single dad Glyn Phillips does his best to balance his love of horses and hard work, with his devotion to his son. When he meets his new neighbour, he knows he should resist any attraction. A feisty pony mare which mysteriously appears on his land adds to his problems, but another, larger problem lies ahead. Two matchmaking spirits find their carefully laid plans may not go as smoothly as they hope.

Excerpt:

Megan and Glyn have become friends. When he discovers she has an ambition to be an artist he commissions her to paint a picture of his son and his pony. Megan invites them both to dinner so she can show it to them. After the meal, Glyn tells her the rather tragic legend of Megan and her lover, Sion Sienco.

Megan looked so sad Glyn immediately regretted telling her the story. He fought the urge to reach out and put his arms around her. Instead, he said, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you. It’s only a story, you know.”

She remained silent for a moment. “No, it’s all right. It’s such a tragic tale, though. I suppose you’re going to tell me Megan haunts this cottage, now.”

He smiled a little hesitantly. “That’s what they say—and Sion as well. According to the legend, Rhiannon’s father was wracked with remorse for the rest of his life and died a few years later. After his death, Sion and Rhiannon’s spirits returned to the cottage. Of course, as I said, it’s only an old folk tale.”

“Nevertheless,” Megan said, pursing her lips, “these legends usually have some basis in fact.”

“You have a point there,” he replied. “In those days girls were often forced to marry a man of their father’s choosing, although of course her intended is unlikely to have been an actual mage. Perhaps he did murder Sion in revenge for him running away with Rhiannon, and the magical element was later added to make the story more interesting.” He paused again. “I hope I haven’t made you feel nervous or anything. You don’t believe in ghosts, do you?”

“Of course not. It takes more than an old legend to scare me. Anyway, if she and Sion do haunt this cottage, I’ve never felt in danger here, or a sense of anything—anything sinister or unearthly.”

Glyn smiled again. “Well, there probably isn’t much left of the original cottage anyway. It must have been rebuilt and extended several times over the years, although I expect the stone walls are the same. As for the spirits, I don’t think they’re supposed to be dangerous, or even in the least bit threatening, and of course, there aren’t really any such things as ghosts. I thought I ought to warn you though, just in case you heard the rumours from someone else and were worried.”

Megan shook her head. “No, I’m not worried—and my uncle never said anything about the cottage being haunted. Mind you, he probably wouldn’t have believed it if a ghost had stepped out in front of him. Great Uncle Thomas was very down to earth.”

“Good. That’s all right then.” He glanced at his watch. “It’s getting late, and this young man ought to be in bed,” he said, glancing down at the boy.

“Of course,” she agreed as Glyn rose and gently pulled Huw to his feet. “Thank you so much for coming, it’s been a lovely evening.”

He took the carefully wrapped, precious painting and placed it under his arm. “We’ve enjoyed it very much,” he told her. “Haven’t we Huw?”

“Yes, thank you very much,” Huw said, looking up at Megan, with a happy grin on his face.

“I’ve loved having you.” She ruffled his hair gently as she saw them to the door.

“Thank you so much again for the wonderful meal—and the beautiful painting—and for getting it framed,” Glyn said, hoping she realized how much he appreciated it. “The frame is so elegant and just right for the painting, I wasn’t expecting you to do that as well. How much do I owe you for it?”

She shook her head, “Nothing, consider it a gift. You’ve paid me for the painting, and I thought it would be nice to have it mounted for you.”

For a moment, Glyn was lost for words. “It’s really kind of you,” he said after a brief pause. “I don’t know how to thank you.”

“No need,” she said quickly. “I’m just happy you

like it.”

“It’s perfect.” He turned back, as Huw trotted ahead to the car, and placed a hand lightly on her arm. She looked so lovely, standing there in the doorway, the moonlight catching her hair and giving it a coppery sheen. He stifled the urge to take her in his arms and kiss her. Now was not the time.

“See you tomorrow then?”

A soft breeze seemed to come from nowhere, carrying with it the scent of lavender.

“Yes, of course, We’re a bit busy, but I’m hoping I won’t have to work too late.”

He smiled and turned to follow Huw with a wave of his hand, wondering what her lips would have tasted like if he had kissed her goodnight.
