My Review:

An intriguing blend of noir thriller and treasure hunting, perfect for fans of Dan Brown’s Robert Langdon Series.

Told in the past and the present, the story centers around two men—Jason and Mark—and their efforts throughout one tumultuous night to expose a powerful, corrupt, and murderous entity called the Imperatores. That is if they can manage to do it before the Imperatores kill them first.

The story is driven equally by the interesting characters and the unpredictable, fast-paced plotting. Both Jason and Mark have complex backstories, scars both psychological and physical, and an intertwined history connecting them to the Imperatores in painful ways. Those traits made it easy for me to connect with them and become invested in their survival during their quest.

Quest seems like such a mild word to describe what these men go through—the losses they suffered—especially Mark, the political corruption making it impossible to trust anyone, the constant tension with a violent organization and the police searching for them, as well as the philosophical angle fueling their determination.

I was enthralled by the unpredictability of the twists and turns throughout the story and the amount of thought and effort that went into adding the deep philosophical interpretations of societal control and the corruption inherent in society. I highly recommend this book for fans of dark thriller that enjoy thought provoking storylines.
