Title: The Reluctant Queen - The Story of Esther

Author: Lin Wilder

Genre: Christian Historical Fiction, Ancient World Historical Romance

Book Blurb:

I'm called Esther-a Persian name, and yet I'm a Hebrew. Had I been able to do so, one of the questions I would have asked my mother and father when I grew older was, "Why did you give me this name?" But now, of course, I know why.

The story of the orphaned Jewish girl who saves the Jewish nation from extinction is the stuff of fantasy and legend.

Did such a person exist?

Could an anonymous girl have been selected to be wife of the ancient Persian king of kings?

"Esther, soldiers will soon be combing the cities and countryside to look for the most beautiful young virgins. They will take hundreds of young girls for the king's harem. Then the king's eunuchs and servants will spend many months preparing the women for their night with him." His words came faster and faster, wanting to get through this."

The author of the award-winning I, Claudia and My Name is Saul ancient novels returns with the story of Esther. Wilder's skills at blending historical fact with vividly imagined, well-founded characters have become her trademark. The Reluctant Queen is guaranteed to captivate both her loyal fans and eager newcomers, right down to its last riveting page.

My Review:

Destined for greatness, Esther must endure countless tragedies in order to save the Hebrew people from death. When Esther was a young girl, she loved talking to her father about God and what the Torah teaches. Little does she know her thirst for knowledge will save her innumerable times. At a young age, her father is murdered by thieves and then her mother dies from childbirth. Orphaned and alone, Esther’s marred by what she’s witnessed. But when her uncle and aunt take her in and care for her like their own daughter, Esther blooms into a beautiful young woman. Her journey takes her from the countryside to the opulent king’s residence. She’ll go through a transformation and eventually becomes queen. But her greatest test will come when she must do the impossible. Can she convince the king to save the Jews from extinction?

The Reluctant Queen - The Story of Esther is a stunning retelling of the historical Persian queen, Esther, and her inspiring story. As a Christian and a faithful person, Esther has been my inspiration. Her story is so moving, it gave me the strength to deal with whatever problem I was going through. Could Lin Wilder recreate Esther with historical accuracy without changing the story? The answer is YES and then some. Lin Wilder takes one of the most beloved Biblical women and infused new life into the story. Emotional descriptive narration brings the ancient world to life with intricate historical accuracy. The setting is so precise, the reader will transport to ancient times. The religious acts and texts add so much to the story, it had me whipping through the pages. I connected with Esther right away and continued throughout the story to the very end. The Reluctant Queen - The Story of Esther is a faith-filled story every Christian and Hebrew person should read. While reading, it reaffirmed my faith in humanity and the power of God. The plot moved at a great pace, with plenty of twists and turns along the way. If you’re looking for an inspiring read, pick up The Reluctant Queen - The Story of Esther. If you’re a historical fiction reader, you’ll want to read The Reluctant Queen - The Story of Esther. If you’re an ancient historical romance reader, you’ll thoroughly enjoy The Reluctant Queen - The Story of Esther. A brilliantly written novel on one of the most important figures in Christianity and Judaism, The Reluctant Queen - The Story of Esther is a must-read. Highly recommend!
