4.5 stars for The Tyrant King by @WritinChinchila #historicalfantasy #bookreview #got

Title: The Tyrant King

Author: Allison Suffridge

Genre: Historical Fantasy Romance

Book Blurb:

The King is a tyrant.

Ruling his land with an iron fist, he makes and passes laws to keep money and power in the pockets of the rich men, leaving the poor to suffer and starve. He cares for nothing and no one beyond himself, and his only real interactions are with the people who work around him.

The King is also sick.

A rare, unknown disease inflicts him, slowly wearing down his bones and organs, until one day when they will finally give out inside him.

There is a way to save him, however. And all he needs is a healthy volunteer. So the King sets out in search of someone, so he can save his life. But when he finally finds the perfect person to use, will he be able to take their life to save his own?

My Review:

The King is a tyrant and he rules his kingdom ruthlessly. He gives to the rich and steals from the poor. He refuses to marry to produce an heir. He’s a cocky brute, thinking he can live forever. The kingdom is in peril for the king is infected with a rare disease, handed down from his ancestors. If he dies before an heir is born, what will become of the land and its inhabitants? A powerful witch is called to perform a spell to save the king, but it comes with moral consequences. Is the Tyrant King willing to take someone’s life to save his own?

The Tyrant King is a unique story, unlike anything I’ve read before. The premise and morality themes got me to read this book. From the first page, I knew this was going to be an interesting read. Told from many POV’s, the reader is thrust into the middle of the story, not knowing what’s happened or what’s going on. But the further I read, the more invested I became in the story and the characters. Each character’s motivation unravels as the plot is propelled. What makes this such a unique story is that the meaning is left up to the reader. For some readers, it’ll be a moral story on what you sow so shall you reap. For other readers, it’ll be a romantic story. For a few readers, it’ll be a great fantasy adventure story. It’s completely up to each reader to decide for themselves and I give credit to the author on a job well done. The nonlinear plot moves at a good pace with a full cast of characters. Fans of Game of Thrones will truly love this story.

Author Biography:

My name is Allison, and I love to write. My favorite genres are science fiction and fantasy, with lots of characters and plot twists. My current books are Deymons: The Induction, the first book in a fantasy series, and Soldiers: The White Room and Soldiers: The Blue Water, the first and second books in the Soldiers series.

My whole life I've loved reading, and the stories in those books always taught me things, and inspired me. They made me laugh and cry and took me away on magical adventures. I've always wanted to write books myself, so I could replicate for other people what those books did for me, so pick up a book of mine and join me on an adventure!
