Book Blurb:

Traumatized by horrors witnessed during the Nazi invasion of France, a young woman retreats to the dense Breton woods where she becomes a member of the clandestine French Resistance. When she finds a critically injured American paratrooper whose plane was shot down, she shelters the wounded soldier in her secluded cottage, determined to heal him despite the enormous risk.

Ostracized by villagers who have labeled her a witch, she is betrayed by an informant who reports to the Butcher—the monstrous leader of the local paramilitary organization that collaborates with the Germans. As the enemy closes in, she must elude the Gestapo while helping the Resistance reunite the American with his regiment and join the Allied Forces in the Battle of Brittany.

My Review:

Can the horrors of war ignite the flames of love deep in the heart of Breton Woods? The Witch of the Breton Woods is a stunning historical romance set in the middle of World War II France. The emotional narration is poignant and offers a different viewpoint on the atrocities of the Nazis and a sliver of hope the French Resistance brings to a world gone mad. The historical accuracy is flawless. But it’s the characters which make The Witch of the Breton Woods truly unforgettable.

Let’s begin with the characters, specifically Yvette. She’s a brave heroine just trying to survive. The world around her is filled with evil and chaos. She’s a natural healer and when she rescues American soldier Beau, she hides him from the Butcher. I connected with her in so many ways. She’s a brilliantly written heroine with thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Every part of the story revolves around Yvette and it’s intoxicating to read her story.

The descriptive narration is classic Jennifer Ivy Walker in its rich historical detail, emotional tension, and flawless execution. The narration is the vehicle to bring the story to life. Every scene is wonderfully described, and the reader is whisked away.

The romance is the main thrust of the story, and I adored reading Yvette and Beau fall in love. Jennifer Ivy Walker’s immersive writing will steal your heart. Love and romance are possible, even when living in despicable times.

If you’re looking for a historical romance set during World War II in France, pick up The Witch of the Breton Woods.
